The elation bubbles sweet at the back of Eddie’s throat and he turns, grin already stretching up into his cheeks, expecting to meet Buck’s equally triumphant gaze.
He’s met with only water, the surface still and unbroken except for the waves Eddie is kicking into existence.
It takes barely a second for his lungs to go tight with the realization that something is wrong, so very very wrong.
