Polina, here's a homemade compilation, born of all the hours I spent lying down, or in the car, or in the waiting room, when there was always too much to think about and only music and the mere thought of you helped me create this immense shield against everything. The sun will be out again soon, and maybe we'll finally be enjoying our picnic. So, until then, I've made this selection from my parents' CDs and cassettes and from what I've been able to dig up. This may sound odd but think of it as a charm. Because, if I've learned anything over the last few months, it's that we all need charms to protect us, so I've carved this one for you out of memories and hopes, bound together with the healing power of a sovereign feeling. Maybe it's a bit cheesy to do mixes, like something straight out of a teenage film, but I think that's how I express myself best (my clumsy letter and its chaotic handwriting is proof of this). But as clumsy and chaotic as we are, now we all know that all we need to do is express ourselves and we no longer have any excuses (although it's so hard). I have thought about it a lot and it's crazy to find it so difficult to say such simple things as ‘thank you’ and ‘I care about you’.

MAGIC SEAS the Essex based indie/alternative duo are set to release their new single,  ‘Can You Hear My Dreams?’ via their own Lemonpop Recs with digital distribution by Shellshock on 17th October.  

‘Can You Hear My Dreams?’ follows the singles, ‘From This View’ and ‘The Sun Chair’ all lifted from the duo’s 3rd LP FROM THIS VIEW which was released in April.  

MAGIC SEAS hail from Chelmsford, Essex and are brothers James and John Prudence.  They make lush, resplendent indie tinged dream pop that draws on the likes of Galaxie 500, Beach House, The War On Drugs, Felt, Cocteau Twins, The Byrds, Echo And The Bunnymen and Slowdive.  On their third album, FROM THIS VIEW they explore the sense of space and wonder within their sound mixing west-coast Americana influenced acoustic guitar and harmonies with reverb drenched C86-esque 12 string guitars and driving drum machine.  Influential blog Even Butterflies Make A Sound commented, ‘From This View’s chiming guitars and washes of shimmering keyboards offer nine cuts of soaring soundscapes for the Magic Seas’ tales of solitude and sorrow.Among the highlights are the title track with its driving drumbeats. ‘Different Ways’ adds harmonica to the mix giving the song a twist of Bob Dylan’s wild mercury sound. ‘Strings And Time’ offers a more acoustic sound to the proceedings to give it a more grounded folky flavour. ‘The Happiness Key’ sails this album off into the sunset with a hypnotic motif. It brings to mind Spacemen 3 during their Perfect Prescription era or Slowdive’s first phase.’ 
FROM THIS VIEW was again recorded with RIDE frontman Mark Gardener who upon hearing the band’s first demo has since been producing them at his OX4 Sound studio in Oxford.  In autumn ‘23 James and John were invited to Nashville to play as session players at WELCOME TO 1979 AGAIN, an all analogue recording studio in an old pressing plant. 

Of the new single John says, “The imagery of the song reflects quite a few aspects of what we do musically, whilst also trying to embrace the listener. It’s exploring a realisation that you are suddenly in an incredible moment that you have been anticipating and you can share its glow with others. Meet us tonight under golden light.”  Of their evocative band name, singer James says, “The idea behind the name MAGIC SEAS was to take people to places within our music.” 
MAGIC SEAS have played tour support with the likes of REVEREND AND THE MAKERS, THE WARLOCKS, REPUBLICA, THE ASTERIOD No.4 and LEVITATION ROOM, and following on from a National Album Day endorsed Ltd 12” release they have also performed live at in store performances for HMV, Flashback Records and for the last two years played live on Record Store Day at Intense Records, Chelmsford.
