The Pressure Drop Show 13th January 2025

Many creation stories focus on how the world was once a random set of processes and reflexes and phenomena that some powerful force was able to organize into something a little less random, and something even with an organization of sorts.  I am told by serious scholars with food stains on their sober college ties (a sure sign of genius) that in Western stories of creation, the word that has been mis-translated as "created" actually means something closer to "ordered."  So in these accounts (which many of you have had read to you as children) there is a force, or diety (if you prefer that kind of language) of some kind that looks around and then ORDERS the universe - they/it turn randomness into order.  But always remember that randomness preceded order, and randomness always has within it the potential of all that we now think we perceive and understand.  So never underestimate the value of the random, which is why today on Routes & Branches & Beyond we are once again celebrating a Random January.  (Wow... that was a long journey as an introduction, wasn't it...?  Pretty random, luh?)

My day job is that I’m a Therapist. I didn’t plan it this way, but I think that has had on impact on my songwriting that I could never have foreseen. I also have ADHD and when I got an adult diagnosis and meds, it turned out I was able to stay focused enough to finish writing songs. So, after years of avoiding this, I’m putting music into the world. 

My hope is that when you listen to these songs, you have some type of emotional response, like this song could be about you too. All of these are autobiographical in once sense, but hopefully they connect to aspects of the human experience that help us feel a little less alone at least for 4 minutes at a time.

Mostly, I am trying to engage with the fact that the stories we have about the pain we endure, are perhaps more influential than the specific details themselves. From falling in love, to divorce, from my childhood to parenthood, losing friends to drama, losing friends to death. The stories we tell are the vessels we use to carry our histories. 

I hope you like the tracks. It’s been such a joy to write and record them and I’m excited and afraid to share them with you. 🙏🏼
