This song is #6 in a new book, “A Cowboy and His Songs – Tuneful Tales of the Old West,” published by Tellwell of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.  It is almost completely pentatonic (except for two notes outside the scale), but has a lot of melodic interest, especially the stylized “cattle call,” sung as "Whoopee TiYiYiYo" by a passing cowboy on his way to deliver ‘dogies’ to beef markets further north.  I recorded my father, Henry Meredith Sr., singing this and 28 other cowboy songs, over 50 years ago, to preserve his rich bass voice and his cheerful interpretations of these historical songs which, already at that time, were disappearing, along with the traditional cowboy way of life.
