But then a little yellow warning lit up in the dark,
Guess I’ve been running ragged, wearing out my heart...


My check engine light came on tonight,
Saying, “Son, you can’t keep living this life.”
I’ve been pushing too hard, letting things slide...
Can’t duct tape the pieces of a weary life...
Yeah, that check engine light cut through the night...
Telling me to slow down and get my soul tuned right...


I’ve been skipping all the small things, chasing every mile,
Trading Sunday mornings for overtime awhile.
Every knock and rattle, I just turned the music up loud...
But you can’t drown out the warning when the fan is slapping on the shroud...


My check engine light came on tonight,
