When I was in my early 20's, I was a very active Christian. Even to the point of going door to door trying to share the Gospel. Praying lots, trying to do the right thing and pray the right prayers and have the right theology.

But Why? Why was I doing this?

Truth be told, I was being selfish. Trying to make a name for myself. Well needless to say, I ended up in a mess of a state. It got to the point where all I could see was myself. Sometimes in a 

'Look at me!'

Kind of way. (For example when performing.) And sometimes in a 

'Woe is me!"

Kind of way. (For example when confronted with my own sin.)

And one is as deadly as the other. Both are fixing their attention on the self.

When where I aught to have fixed my Gaze on Jesus, the Christ. 

And that's what this hymn is exactly about. Except John Newton wrote the words to it.

I little hymn I wrote to the tune of "Be Thou My Vision." Christian Ecology seems more and more necessary every day. I pray for the future of our world and I appeal to Christ to help us in our mission to preserve our worldly home. God bless.

You Are Always Good

At the Mention of His Name

I think about this almost every day: How the same elders who preach about and long for the "outpouring of the Spirit in the last days", now disgustedly call that outpouring: "teens being woke".

Your children are in the streets fighting for the rights, safety, wellbeing, and protection of others than themselves. They are paying the price of friends, popularity, money, future careers, energy, emotional space, time, and even their freedom to stand with the oppressed, the imprisoned, the poor, the widows and orphans, the dispossessed and marginalised. What did you expect the Spirit of Jesus to look like?

Haven't you wondered how so many children and youth globally (!) can be caring about justice, what is right, equality, dismantling systems of misogyny, racism, and evil?

There is an global outpouring happening right under your noses, and you're missing it. Wake up. Wake up. The Spirit of God is moving, and you're missing it.

he watches as teens flood the streets
“Everyone's woke,”

He's observing the teens on the stand

He's eyeing the skirts of the minors
A predator masked as a saint
If love and consent

Tell me, what did you really imagine
Jesus leading his people would be?
This God who is Justice, Compassion
for the outcasts, and trampled, and weak

Who has the vision to see it?
Who has the heart to discern?
The Spirit of Jesus is moving
in the children and youth that you spurn

Are your eyes really so blinded -
it is happening under your nose!
The prophecy's truth,
the children and youth,
following where the Lamb may go

And so what then's the conclusion-
If the places the Spirit leads them
are far from the hills that you died on
and so far from places you stand?

And they didn't recognise Jesus,
their Messiah who walked in their midst
Jesus' Spirit is showing up
I guess that the Spirit’s showing up
in ways that you didn’t expect

When God delivers you from trouble, when He heals you, or when He comes through for you, it's time to not only praise Him for the victory, but to acknowledge all the times in the past the He's done the same thing. He has rescued us time and time again. This is a song to celebrate your victory in God!
