So I actually wrote and recorded the first version of this song back in 2018, when I was working with actually a couple different projects under the premise of being part of a "band", but both ended up being covert "solo" vanity projects that didn't mind using their members for creative input and for propping them up to make them sound palatable, but did couldn't stomach the idea of sharing the spotlight or creative control. I've learned in the past few years to not give multiple chances when these types come back wanting your help again, because no matter how convincing the initial ruse is, the same toxicity and bad habits are festering just underneath the surface, awaiting that moment where they feel they've got you "in" enough to start exercising those old behaviors. Fool me twice, as they say. It does not happen a third time. But it's always interesting to see one of the "characters" in my lyrics literally play it all out in real-time all over again. So what better time than now to share this song, which unironically is as relevant today as it was 7 years ago. Enjoy!

Singer/guitarist/songwriter Heath Lane has been a fixture in the Upstate South Carolina scene since the mid 1990's, where he rapidly went from playing bass backing other bands to forming his first punk band, Idle Minds, where he would settle in on guitar. With a musical style that blends rootsy Americana a la Tom Petty or Steve Earle with classic blues-based rock-n-roll reminiscent of the Stones or AC/DC, the intensity of punk and new wave harkening back to Social Distortion and the Replacements and the energy and diversity of the Foo Fighters, Lane finally caved to peer pressure and embarked on a new side career as a solo artist. Always embracing the truest spirit of rock by being unafraid of speaking his mind at the risk of going against the grain, Lane adheres to a lyrical method that is often both clever and cynical, and has been known to strike a nerve or two with (often autobiographical) subject matter. Brutal honesty coupled with irresistible hooks and melodies are a recipe that he executes unlike any other, and his goal is to have at least one song stuck in your head after visiting his page or seeing a live performance!

Lane has also established himself as a regional "go-to" hired gun and can be seen on stages all over either in collaboration with other original artists or providing much-needed help (or turd-polishing) with the occasional local cover-band. Lane performed lead guitar and vocal work live with Greenville area longstanding outfit The Oath, provided songwriting/arrangement and multiple instruments with other independent projects, serves as frontman for 90's cover-band Barcode, and is one half of the alt-rock/indie-blues power-duo W4WVK (named for the amateur radio handle used for decades his great-grandfather).

In late 2023, Lane also embarked on building custom, fully-functioning giggable 6-string cigar box guitars under the Lane CBGs moniker, and his builds are owned by musicians not just regionally, but all over the United States!
