Diatonic Fields is an original composition written by me in November 2021 and performed by the DNK Ensemble in collaboration with composers of the composition department of the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

The piece plays with soundscapes created by collections of notes from diatonic scales and having progressively distant collections clash with each other. Among these scales are the ones that we know as "major" and "minor" scales, in popular western music culture often described as sounding "happy" and "sad".

The music is the result of a text score, a form of sheet music that does not use music notation as primary notation, but rather uses text instructions. This gives the performers a degree of interpretative freedom and no performance will be alike!

This is the recording of the world premiere by Paul Carlson, tuba and Brian Ciach, piano at the International Tuba ad Euphonium Conference in May of 2014 at Indiana University.
