A piano composition, either to be played by two pianists, or by one pianist with four arms.

Part of a new album I've been uploading, featuring compositions written over the last several months of 2021. If anyone can pinpoint what all of these compositions have in common, musically-speaking, put it in the comments - there was a concept tying everything together but I'm not going to reveal what it was unless if someone figures it out on their own.

This album is going to be called "Prohibited Topics," a tribute to the textbook authors and teachers whose work is being disrupted by right wing efforts to stifle education about racial disparity and structural racism in the US.

Originally this was the first half of a longer song. The second half kind of felt out of place so I just chopped it out, leaving us with a short "half song." Written in a pentatonic scale, hope you enjoy.

19 5 31 (Half a Song)

My only plan starting out this one was to try writing something for solo harpsichord. I ended up changing the instrument in Musescore, abandoning the harpsichord idea and switching to clavinet just because I thought the composition sounded cooler this way. I think it's a rondo, meaning it has a recurring "main idea" that repeats multiple times and multiple digressions away from that main idea, or maybe it's more a loose "variations on a theme" kind of thing.

I teach in US higher education (in a STEM field) for a living & am a hobbyist composer writing in a few different styles. I recommend headphones. All of my music is released under a Creative Commons Attribution/Noncommercial license.

My bandcamp page is getting out of date again, but some older albums there can be downloaded for free or for a name-your-own price donation.
