We live in very unsettling times. When the whole order of the world seems to be shifting, it is good for us to return to the unshifting words of Jesus Christ.

Among Jesus’ last words before He was arrested and crucified,  we see His tender concern for his disciples. He assures them of the love His heavenly Father has for them. He explains that they can pray directly to God the Father in Jesus’ name—and He will answer.  Jesus comforts them with His assurance that He will rise from the dead, and earlier in the chapter, Jesus promises them the Holy Spirit.

Jesus also warns his disciples that a time is coming when they will be scattered and even abandon the Christ. But He promises never to abandon them. Likewise Jesus will never abandon us, who put our faith in Him.

In the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the followers of Jesus find peace, even in the most unsettling times, a peace the world cannot take away.

Peace That the World Cannot Take Away - May 25 - Sixth Sunday of Easter

Being separated from the events of scripture by at least 2,000 years can make us wonder how to find points of connection, but even the second generation of the church found itself in a different place theologically and practically from Jesus' first disciples. And these differences might just be the key for us to find how the peace Jesus promises to those who saw him face to face can be a source of hope for us as well.

A Peace for Every World

When you are going to choose something, like an airplane ticket, buying a new car, a house to live in - do you choose what you desire and then ask what you have to be, do, have and choose to be to create it?

Or do you only choose what you are financially comfortable controlling?

Is that being smart with money? Is that being cheap with money? Is that called not challenging yourself financially? Is that called living within your means? Is that smart? Is that wrong? Or is all of that just a choice?

When you use money to justify not choosing stuff, it's when you are really cheapening yourself. Ask and thy shall receive is real. 

Are you asking for what you'd really like or are you only asking for what is financially comfortable, predictable and a known quantity to you?
