Violet Vonder Haar is a mid-Missouri musician, educator, and community leader whose work blends artistry with activism. Performing since the age of 9, she is an award-winning singer/songwriter, front woman of Violet and the Undercurrents, Director of Music Ministry at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbia, and Programs Director at Compass Inc. — a thriving hub for music lessons, camps, concerts, and workshops.

Her passion for music as a force for inclusion and change has fueled projects like the Jane Doe Revue, which raised tens of thousands for women’s healthcare, and the Compass Inc. “Music is for Everyone” fund, providing scholarships for aspiring musicians. Recognized with honors including the Sarah Dwyer Special Appreciation Award at the National Women’s Music Festival (2018), Columbia Missourian’s Progress in the Arts (2023), COMO Magazine’s 20 Under 40 Class of 2024, and was recognized by the City of Columbia for her outstanding contribution to the arts in 2025. Violet continues to shape a generation of musicians and community members through her belief that music heals, empowers, and connects us all.
