Broken is an attempt to find a musical language for emotional instability. At its core is a persistent sense of uncertainty that became part of everyday life after 2022. But this is not a direct response to external events — it’s about internal transformation, about how the experience of war rewires the body, rhythm, and thought.
Structurally, the album embraces imbalance and unpredictability. Built on broken beats and sudden shifts, its tracks reject linearity and stable form. For human margareeta, composition isn’t about resolution — it’s a space where opposites can coexist. That’s why the tracks often sound interrupted or disjointed, and sometimes like several songs in one.
“I don’t think of music in terms of drops or clear arcs. I’m interested in unstructured forms that can shift at any moment. Like in life — when everything seems fine on the surface, but something’s cracking underneath,” says human margareeta.
Broken is not about one emotion. It’s about layered presence — anxiety, calm, rage, exhaustion, tenderness — all existing at once, without canceling each other out. That multiplicity is what margareeta seeks to express through sound.
The title Broken is both literal and metaphorical — describing the state of body, rhythm, and psyche through fractured logic and lack of wholeness. But instead of trying to fix it, the album accepts this condition as a new normal and finds music inside it.
The tracks on Broken tap into deeply personal terrain. “fffffuuuuuuucccccckkkkk” was written in a single night during the Kyiv blackouts, when margareeta was crashing at a friend’s place without a permanent home — a shapeless outburst of fatigue and emotional burnout. “trainspotting” was born during the long journeys between Kyiv and Berlin — a track about the limbo of being between realities, where nothing feels grounded. “you can’t break what’s broken” exists in two versions: a raw, introspective solo track and a collaboration with Geyera and saxophonist Andrii Barmalii, exploring themes of dissonance and attachment from different angles. Other tracks include “jeux d’eau les chaotique,” a fractured homage to Maurice Ravel, and “Kryshtal,” previously released as a single with an accompanying music video. Each composition is a fragment of a shared but unpredictable emotional landscape.
