Cette île est un microcosme de la crise sociale et écologique. Une dessinatrice, un architecte, un ethnologue rencontrent 7 artisans-jardiniers-constructeurs et écoutent leurs propositions pour réinventer Mayotte et le monde.

Crise urbaine, bidonville, crise de l'eau potable, crise migratoire... Mayotte, c'est un condensé des injustices actuelles. En se questionnant sur les constructions bambou, la dessinatrice Aurélia Aurita, l'anthropologue  Frédéric Joulian et l'architecte Matthias Cambreling signent une fable documentaire pour éclairer le monde.

Aurélia Aurita est née en 1980. Elle publie ses premières histoiresdans Fluide glacial et se fait connaître du grand public avec Fraise et chocolat, récit intime et érotique paru en 2006. L’autrice poursuit sur sa lancée avec Buzz-moi, Vivi des Vosges et le reportage LAP ! Un roman d’apprentissage, avant de signer chez Casterman Ma vie est un best-seller, puis Comme un chef avec Benoît Peeters, récit des expériences culinaires du scénariste des Cités obscures. Avec la chanteuse Jeanne Cherhal, elle donne plusieurs représentations de concerts dessinés à la Maison de la Poésie de Paris, au festival Le Livre sur la Place à Nancy ainsi qu’aux Correspondances de Manosque. En 2022, elle participe au Cahier de L’Herne consacré à l’écrivaine Annie Ernaux et publie La Vie gourmande.

Frédéric Joulian est anthropologue. Maître de conférencesà l’École des hautes études en sciences sociales, il a été directeur adjoint du laboratoire d’Anthropologie sociale au Collège de France et responsable du programme interdisciplinaire Évolution, natures et cultures de l’EHESS jusqu’en 2011. Il a dirigé la revue interdisciplinaire Techniques & culture de 2006 à 2016. Ses recherches portent sur les processus d’évolution et sur les significations des phénomènes techniques et culturels dans le temps long et sur les interactions hommes-animaux en Afrique et en Europe. Un de ses derniers ouvrages porte sur l’apprentissage et la transmission des savoir-faire formels et informels « Waza, l’art ineffable de l’apprentissage » 2022. Il pilote actuellement un projet de recherche «Anthropographique» qui fédère aujourd’hui de nombreux chercheurs, dessinateurs et architectes au sein d’un séminaire EHESS-MUCEM intitulé «Une autre façon de raconter la geste technique».

Matthias Cambreling est diplôme de l’école d’architecture de Marseille. Durant son parcours, il intégre le bureau d’études Gaujard Technologie Scop spécialisé en ingénierie des structures bois et des enveloppes en matériaux biosourcées. En 2019 il est missionné par le Ministère de l’Agriculture et des Forêts de Mayotte afin de définir une stratégie de réactivation des filières de matériaux de construction issues de l’île. Les nombreux échanges avec les foundis (sages de villages) aboutissent à la création de l’association BAM (Bambou à Mayotte) et à la planification de nombreuses actions. Parmi celles-ci, l’inventaire des pratiques bambou. Ce travail doit permettre d’interroger les relations existantes entre les pratiques constructives locales et le soin que celles-ci apportent aux milieux naturelles de l’île. Il intervient aujourd’hui au sein de l’association Cultures-Permanentes et du bureau d’études DOMENE scop.
