that could “maim Godzilla.”
With a wink and a wince, Davies captures that all-too-familiar cycle: a few too many
drinks, a few too many thoughts, and the hazy hope that maybe this is the day it all
turns around. Set against a laid-back, pub-soaked groove, Cloudy Thinking is both a
confession and a comedy — think Tom Waits meets Slim Dusty at last call.
Whether you’ve just sworn off booze or cracked open another cold one, this song
gets it. It’s for the bleary-eyed legends just trying to hold it together one
chorus at a time.
This first release from Justin Davies features Patrick Green on bass guitar, and
recorded with sound engineer Peter Oats at Kitchen Cooked Studios. It has a rolling
rhythm like Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Pride and Joy slowed from 45 to 33 - and keeping
the groove.
The song builds to a melodic solo, before the protagonist emerges hangover free to
do it all again - with obvious consequences.

"God’s Gonna" is a personal and reimagined version of Johnny Cash’s classic, "God's Gonna Cut You Down", where I’ve restructured the melody to give it a new sound and emotional depth. The essence of the song remains intact, but the interpretation has evolved into a more intense and visceral atmosphere. The slide guitar plays a pivotal role, creating a powerful contrast with the vocals, almost competing for the listener’s attention, while the acoustic guitar solidly marks the harmonies, adding body and depth to the song.

The lyrics, which were already full of warning and defiance in its original version, are amplified by the musical arrangement. My version seeks to intensify the sense of impending divine justice, that no matter how much one runs or hides, sooner or later the truth will come to light. This interpretation not only respects the original message of the song but transforms it, creating a rawer and more emotional sonic experience.

"I Wish I Didn't Know Her" is a heartfelt acoustic ballad about love, betrayal, and the pain of losing someone to a friend. Set in the quiet corners of a bar, the song captures a woman's raw emotions as she tries to drink away the heartbreak of watching someone she loved slip away into the arms of someone she once trusted. Alright, let me tell you about my musical journey, which has taken me through quite a few different styles and instruments.

I started with a formal music education, where I studied French horn and church organ. I really immersed myself in the world of classical music, playing in concert bands and orchestras. Later on, I joined a military band, which gave me the chance to explore a wider range of instruments. I played clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and of course, horn. It was a great experience to be part of such a disciplined and professional musical organization.

Beyond performing, I also developed a keen interest in the mechanics of musical instruments. I became a church organ builder and a restorer of mechanical instruments. This allowed me to combine my love of music with my fascination for how instruments work. I found it incredibly rewarding to bring these complex and beautiful machines back to life.

In more recent years, I've found myself drawn to the raw emotion and soulful expression of the blues. I've taken up the blues harmonica, and I'm really enjoying the journey of learning this instrument and exploring this genre. The blues feels like a natural fit for me, a way to connect with music on a deeper, more personal level.

So, that's a little bit about my musical background. It's been a diverse and winding path, but I'm grateful for all the experiences and opportunities I've had along the way.
