Both are founder members of Stoke on Trent's rockabilly chart-toppers The Rhythm Hawks, with Ken Newbon and Billy Gibbons (Eddie 'Sax' Lane joining us later).  We scored a No.1 single on Sounds magazine national rock 'n' roll chart with our song 'Zodiac' - released on the Hot Rock label and produced by Sutherland Brothers, Gavin and Iain.

The Rhythm Hawks toured extensively across the UK and parts of Europe and were twice hand-picked as the backing group for UK tours by American 'Rockabilly Hall Of Fame' legends, Ray Campi and Mac Curtis.

Now, DBm (UK) has been launched to share and promote new and newly discovered recordings of previously unheard Dawson/Breward songs, together with some re-workings of earlier tracks.  Some to feature The Rhythm Hawks and others to showcase new, exciting talent like 'KID K.O.',   '24-SEVEN' and the country sounds of 'LAST MAN STANDING', to be introduced here in the coming weeks and months.

In 2024, I flatlined on an operating table. Cardiac arrest. Everything changed.

When I came back, the words came with me — like they’d been waiting their turn. Since then, the songs haven’t stopped. I write what’s real: struggle, hope, grit, and grace — stories meant to be felt.

You’ll hear pieces of my past, my people, and the kind of heartland truth you can’t fake. These songs aren’t just mine — they’re for anyone who’s fought through silence and still found a voice.

Most of my music centers on Jesus Christ and God’s amazing grace. I primarily write in the Country Christian style, but every now and then I like to branch out when the mood strikes. You might hear touches of alternative Christian rock (I did grow up in the ’60s and ’70s), contemporary gospel, or even a hint of bluegrass gospel along the way. From time to time, I also step outside faith-based music into modern bluegrass or country.

One of my current projects is an album inspired by poems I wrote to my wife while she was deployed during Desert Storm in 1991. After all these years, I’m finally adapting them into songs — a project that’s been close to my heart for decades.

I was fortunate to play bass and sometimes piano in my late teens and early twenties for a country gospel group known as The Gospel Crusaders. We performed primarily at churches across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Then life happened, and I stepped away from performing for almost 50 years. During this time, I started focusing more on writing lyrics and music. In 2017, I picked up my mandolin and joined God’s Country in Largo, Florida. The group disbanded in 2023 when several members moved out of state, but we’re planning a reunion performance in 2026.

Even when I venture beyond my main focus of sharing the gospel through song, I strive to keep my lyrics honest, heartfelt, and sometimes just plain fun. Believe it or not, I’m not in this to make money — I write as an outlet to share the stories and experiences of life over the past 70 years. I write the lyrics for most of my songs, though I’ve been blessed to collaborate with a few talented friends along the way.

I use Studio One to produce my music and have built a large library of loops over the years. Some vocals are mine; others are performed by friends. And yes, I also use AI-generated voices or enhancements to vocals when needed.  I am in my 7th decade on earth and my voice doesn’t have the range it once had, plus I don’t have immediate access to female vocalists.  There’s a lot of debate about AI in music, but for me, the goal has never changed — to spread God’s love and joy. Technology is simply a tool, much like the studio innovations that have shaped music for the past fifty years.

In today’s music, many well-known and touring artists now use pre-recorded tracks and digital stems during live concerts to fill out harmonies, recreate orchestral parts, or trigger sound effects — it’s all part of modern performance. Whether it’s a backing track on stage or an AI vocal line in the studio, the heart behind the music still matters most.

I don’t believe AI will ever replace real musicians, but those who learn to embrace it and use it to enhance their craft will continue to flourish in the music industry.

I play bass, trumpet, guitar, piano, mandolin, and I’m currently working to get up to speed on the fiddle. You may not agree with my take on AI, and that’s okay. My purpose isn’t profit — it’s to share the message of God’s love through whatever tools I have, whether that’s a guitar, a loop, or an algorithm that helps me clean up a mix.

As W. Edwards Deming once said,
“It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory.”

Technology will keep evolving, and so will we. My greatest hope is that one of these songs touches someone’s heart or makes a difference in their life. If God can use even one of them to do that, then I’ve accomplished what I set out to do.

In the shadows of Apache Junction, at the foot of the majestic Superstition Mountains, sits a weathered hacienda. This desert oasis is home to an enigmatic figure, a songwriter whose journey reads like a long, dusty road of honky-tonk bars and college cafeterias. He wasn't chasing fame or glitter; instead, he chose the soul-crushing beauty of music for music's sake.

Years spent hunched over sticky barroom tables and scribbling lyrics on napkins earned him a reputation—not in the spotlight but in the back rooms where deals are made. He wrote melodies that found their way into the hearts of stars who had lost their own muse. He sold his creations for cash, with no recognition, but the whisper of his songs carried the weight of his soul.

Finally, he bought this piece of desert paradise—a stable income from his timeless songs allowed him to live comfortably, if anonymously. Here in this hacienda, with his family beside him and the mountains as his backdrop, he found the peace to write hits under his own name. He chuckled at the irony that now, without chasing fame, he could create music that brought him joy.

In the end, it was never about the spotlight. It was about the journey, the stories, and the songs that wrote themselves through his life. As the sun set behind the Superstitions, casting long shadows over the hacienda, he strummed his guitar and sang—content, unknown, and unburdened by the world's gaze.

Grew up on country and pop music. I love singing and songwriting,. I've met and talked with a few of the greats like Dolly and Johnny Cash - something I will treasure always. If I can, in my lifetime, be half as good as they, then I won't have failed. I love all genres of music; especially music and lyrics that grab the heart. I enjoy writing with other songwriters. I love it when a song takes on its own life and evolves into something greater than was intended. My goal is not to be famous, but to share my songs and sing my heart out for those who listen. Wow! The world is filled with great entertainers. I'm grateful to be even a small part of it. My hats off to all the singer/songwriters out there working hard to make their dreams come true! JD Walker’s path into music was one that most never overcome. To say his life and music is anything but a miracle is a vast understatement. You could call him the man, the myth, the legend. And clearly God was with him every step of the way. It all began in Missouri where he was born and raised, the youngest of 3 brothers.    

There was no doubt music was part of his DNA. He started writing songs in high school and when he was 18, wrote his very first song with the help of his uncle. JD dreamed of becoming a professional songwriter making a living in music and getting to perform on The Grand Ole Opry stage.

 JD’s world was about to forever change. After graduating, he attended the Aeronautical school for Aviation completing 2 years of training. It was summer and just before the 4th of July. He was traveling with his childhood best friend down a country road near Warsaw, MO by his family's lake cabin, when his best friend was shot while driving the truck, they were in. The truck accelerated rapidly and started to veer off the road. JD yelled for his friend to turn the wheel before they went off into a ravine, he grabbed for the wheel, but it was too late, the truck slammed into a tree head on at 60 mph.

 Through broken glass, twisted metal, sparks flying and the smell of gas, JD went to open the door, but it was jammed, and he was injured. He remembers praying while pushing on the door and after a few attempts he was able to open it just enough to squeeze out. He stumbled over to the driver’s side and opened the door, his friend was unconscious. In fear the truck was going to ignite in flames, he made the decision to pull him out, dragging him far enough away to safety. CPR attempts to revive his friend were unsuccessful, and he died in his arms. Later it was learned that his friend had been shot in the back of the head. JD had to relive this day over and over while investigators put the case together. He ended up testifying for trial and a man was eventually convicted of 2nd degree murder. He served 10 years and was released. He ultimately ended up suffering a heart attack that ended his life.

5 years later JD would meet Tina, the love of his life and after 4 years of being together they were married. However, his time of happiness would prove short as a month into their new lives together Tina would be diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer. In shock, JD would be by her side for the next 7 months while she fought hard, but she ended up succumbed to the disease.

10 months later while dealing with the loss of his wife and trying to find a way to go on without her, JD lost his oldest brother to suicide. He had a strong faith thanks to being brought up in a Christian home, but he could feel it slipping. Hurt and angry he battled though some dark times, questioning God and why he had allowed all these things to happen to him. But God was faithful and led him back to his plan and purpose. Instead of allowing people to discourage him and leave him feeling sorry for himself he took the pain and channeled it into his music and songwriting and also learned the martial arts of Aikido/Jujitsu. His faith grew stronger, he and his parents grew closer becoming his 2 best friends. Grateful more than ever he knows that God is going to use him powerfully to accomplish his great purposes in his life and wants nothing more than to share that message with the world.
