L'électro funk est apparu dans les années 1980 comme une fusion des genres musicaux.
Le genre a été fortement influencé par les pionniers de la musique électronique de danse tels que Kraftwerk et Giorgio Moroder , qui avaient auparavant popularisé les sons basés sur des synthétiseurs dans leur musique.
