If you’re in the process of retraining your brain out of negative thought patterns, sometimes you can get discouraged – thinking it’s never going to work.  That’s when you can get stuck dwelling in the fact that you are stuck in a negative mindset.  What a vicious cycle!  This is an emotional power-up for if you’re getting discouraged with the change you are trying to make in your own bad habits.  Maybe you’re trying to train yourself to focus on happiness, to stop worrying, or to be simply calm and still.  Whatever it is – this is to soothe that fear and get you back on track – which is where you are already, whether you can see it or not!

When will my self-work start working? An emotional power-up when you’re discouraged and dwelling.


This is for anyone who is at the stage of personal growth where you haven't seen the change yet and you’re struggling with doubts about whether or not you should keep going at all. Maybe the positive affects are not obvious and therefore you don't have enough momentum to sustain your focus at the same level – so some part of you is suggesting you give up and accept that you are different than those who succeed. Maybe you're relying (barely) on sheer faith and your own will but doubts are sneaking in.  This is an inspirational power-up from the sidelines from someone who can see where you are on the hill. Yes, it’s the toughest part – but this will hopefully help you keep going! Don’t stop now!!! You’re almost there!

Evangeline Weiss is an artist, poet, and mother, and to her, being her full-self means embracing those parts of her while practicing love for everyone. She turned her television off in 1984 and describes herself as a queer, white, anti-racist social change agent with a twinkle in her eye!  If that doesn't get your attention, she is also the Leadership Programs Director at the National LGBTQ Task Force. She works on the Creating Change Conference helping the Task Force building relationships in the host city which will be Detroit, MI in January 2019. As part of the build-up to the conference, the Task Force will host the Queering Racial Justice in Detroit September 8th.
Before working at the Task Force, Evangeline worked in HIV/AIDS advocacy projects in the 1990s in New York. She worked at the Gay Men’s Health Crisis and the local needle exchange in the East Village, and at Act Up. She has worked in human resources and spent 5 years as the Director of Diversity & Equity for Duke University’s Office for Institutional Equity.

Taissa Morimoto currently works on criminal and economic justice, democracy, and census advocacy as policy counsel at the National LGBTQ Task Force.
She has explored the dangers of the for-profit prison industry, a system which has an incentive to impose longer sentences--and the impact of a recent Supreme Court decision which may help reverse this trend. She has also done work related to reproductive justice including around sex ed policy and how it impacts LGBTQ youth.
Taissa is a member of the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community. She has experienced instances of microaggressions, harassment and being bullied as an East Asian woman and a queer woman.
Taissa received her bachelor’s degrees and J.D. from the University of Florida, where she represented survivors of intimate partner violence and led workshops on civil rights restoration.
