Then the choruses come back with the will to be different, to lose the past, rise above with God’s strength and hope, and dance away into the sun. By the 3rd verse I’ve been restored in a childlike faith. On a cosmic jukebox this song would play between Badfinger, David Bowie, and Neil Finn. It's Going To Be Different Today

The song title alludes to a famous episode of The Twilight Zone and the customs at Buckingham Palace, but it's more a story about the implicit astronaut on this album (extending from David Bowie's Major Tom). The lyrics spread over 3 days, when he kisses his wife and goes off to get suited up for space travel. By day 3 he realizes he's walking in the hallowed steps of those who've gone before him--the old guard. He's the new guard now, but one day he'll also pass the torch. Angels remind him of his wife's love at the end. If you're familiar with closing scenes in Tolkien's LORD OF THE RINGS you'll recognized the "Grey Havens" in the bridge. Musically I was influenced by David Bowie, Neil Finn/Crowded House, and The Beatles, particularly “the White Album” (and there’s lots of Mellotron and “burning piano” on this as well). This one's in loving memory of Miguel Barrios. More than a friend. He was family.
We shared our love for music. We didn't record much together, but when we did, it was a joy. Listen to his percussion on "Roads" or his vocals on "Alyda" (see links below). I always enjoyed singing with him. No one I know sang better harmonies. That's why I chose today's song, a live rendition from a night of singalong songs, Martin and I were playing and Miguel was in the audience, spontaneously joining in with the harmony vocals without any rehearsal. Since everybody knew he could pull it off, he was asked to sing along at the start of the song, when he was still in the middle of a heated conversation, as he quite often was. But by the first chorus he was ready to join in. Crowded House was one of his all time favourites, and it wasn't the only band we both loved.

You'll be missed, brother!

Entertainer, songwriter, and “Singer at Large” Johnny J. Blair is known for his brand of “pop music with a twist,” influenced by Americana, British Invasion rock, old school soul/r’n’b, psychedelia, and punk/new wave, with melodicism breathed by classical, gospel, jazz, and world music. 

As a solo acoustic act or when fronting a band, Johnny engages an audience. He was called “a white James Brown” by Brown’s legendary drummer, Clyde Stubblefield. Johnny’s current itinerary includes performing in assisted living homes for people with disabilities and dementia: “Music goes through the brain into places where math and language don’t reach. It heals, and it makes a difference.”

Since the 80s, Johnny has issued full-length recordings to a global audience— from the “new wave concept album” DOOR IN THE WATER, to the soulful masterwork FIRE, to the bare-knuckled acoustic “agitpop” of TREADMARKS, to the “Ziggy Stardust meets PET SOUNDS” of GRATEFUL to the glam-tango tinged masterwork I LIKE THE STREET (with musical support from The Badlees, Eric Biondo/Beyondo, and Mike Garson, David Bowie’s pianist).

Johnny has worked with a range of acts—most prominently with Davy Jones of The Monkees (“I learned valuable stagecraft from David”). Johnny played and worked with Jones for 20 years, and he was the touring bassist/vocalist with The Monkees 45th Anniversary Tour of the UK and USA. Other artists Johnny has played with are John Bechdel (Ministry), David Cassidy, Buddy & Julie Miller, and Al Stewart (“Year of the Cat”). 

For 2019, Johnny on the beat with fresh material and a new album in the works, WE’RE GETTING CLOSER TO THE SUN. He says, “I’ve played the Royal Albert Hall, CBGB’s, Disney, The Fillmore, Las Vegas, Mabuhay Gardens, the Tokyo Billboard, holy temples in India, desert islands, Caribbean cruise ships, churches, prisons, garages, biker bars, and picnics, but I’ll really hit it big when I play for you!”

Former bass player with Gerry and the Pacemakers, and lead singer of Fivestones. Writing and performing solo these days!

L' associazione, pur essendo “in cantiere” come idea già da aprile 2020, è nata ufficialmente il 13/02/2021 (giornata mondiale della radio...) con la voglia di divertirsi, aggregarsi (covid permettendo…) tra i soci (che presteranno il loro apporto come volontariato) e per far “rinascere” il comune di Gonzaga (frazioni comprese) dopo le privazioni che i cittadini hanno dovuto subire a causa della pandemia in corso. L’idea è quella di rifarsi alle “RADIO LIBERE” nate a metà degli anni ’70, per trasmettere informazione, cultura e musica di qualità (anche con sonorità meno consuete di quelle che “passano” nelle radio tipicamente commerciali) e ciò SENZA SCOPO DI LUCRO e per proporre iniziative culturali, coinvolgendo altre associazioni e ha in generale, la finalità di:
-realizzare programmi radiofonici musicali e d’informazione (precisando che l’associazione è totalmente apartitica e non sarà quindi permesso agli speaker e ospiti, oltre ad utilizzare un linguaggio blasfemo o altamente scurrile, conversare di politica); sono disponibili apposite pagine Facebook, Twitter, Instagram e YouTube ed un sito internet (nel quale sarà possibile con un semplice “click” ascoltare le trasmissioni dal proprio pc fisso o portatile) dove sarà inserito il palinsesto settimanale della radio, oltre che news relative agli eventi musicali culturali comunali e dei dintorni e, contingenza fondamentale, una APP scaricabile sui propri smartphone/tablet/pc dai sistemi operativi IOS (per iPhone), Android (per Samsung ecc ecc) e Huawei e che permetterà agli utenti di ascoltare la nostra radio comodamente in ogni luogo (anche all’estero).
-diffondere la cultura radiofonica e musicale nel mondo giovanile e non, attraverso le nuove tecnologie digitali;
-ampliare la conoscenza della cultura musicale, letteraria ed artistica, attraverso contatti fra persone, enti ed associazioni (abbiamo già avviato i contatti con la cooperativa sociale di Gonzaga “IL PONTE”, onde coinvolgere i ragazzi con disabilità, in progetti radiofonici e feste, in collaborazione con la nostra emittente, dove i medesimi potranno, unitamente ai nostri volontari, erogare prodotti e sentirsi parte viva della manifestazione), dando spazio ai giovani artisti emergenti (i quali verranno invitati in sede, intervistati in diretta e potranno poi proporre in versione acustica alcuni dei loro brani, per i radioascoltatori);
-allargare gli orizzonti didattici, in campo musicale e radiofonico, di educatori ed operatori sociali ovvero di tutti gli interlocutori tramite le attività dell’associazione, anche proponendo, in collaborazione con “l’officina dell’immaginazione”, corsi per speaker radiofonici (con sconto per gli associati);
-proporsi come spazio di incontro e di aggregazione nel nome di interessi culturali, assolvendo alla funzione sociale di maturazione e crescita umana, etica e civile, attraverso l’ideale di cooperazione;
-determinare e promuovere la diffusione di opere musicali in accordo diretto o indiretto con gli autori, produttori, esecutori, interpreti;
-valorizzare la cultura e l’arte (in particolare modo locale) in ogni sua espressione, particolarmente quella legata alla musica, ai suoi autori, interpreti, esecutori e quindi alla sua divulgazione con tutti i mezzi messi a disposizione dalla tecnologia. Tutto ciò deve aver luogo in condizione di rispetto delle altrui libertà;
-rendersi interpreti delle necessità territoriali e strumento prezioso di mediazione e canale d’informazione indipendente tra Enti, Autorità e Cittadini;
-organizzare e/o patrocinare eventi culturali, spettacoli, concerti, fiere;
– gestire impianti pubblici e/o privati di qualsiasi genere (sportivi, teatri, sale convegni ecc.)
-avviare un piano di promozione del territorio e dei suoi prodotti, attività, aziende;
-partecipare a programmi e iniziative a carattere Comunitario, Nazionale, Regionale Provinciale e Comunale aventi attinenza con le attività sopra citate.
