Acoustic cover of Dan Fogelberg's Song From Half Mountain, from his album Souvenirs.  I could keep messing with it for days to clean up bits and pieces, but 'perfect' being the enemy of 'done' and all... it's good enough, I can revisit it later.

I've heard a couple covers of the song but none really capture the accompanying guitars in a way I liked, so I tried to get something close for most of the song and diverge only in a few places, like I didn't try to faithfully replicate the oboe part on the guitar.

Despite doing an acoustic instrumental cover, my favorite aspect of this piece is actually the lyrics. Everyone will just have to listen to the original for that though.

Based in Los Angeles, he is a Lifetime Member of the Recording Academy, and has authored a book that just came out last month titled, “Tuned In: Memoirs of a Piano Man,” which has hit Number 1 on Amazon in multiple categories and gotten over 40 endorsements from A-list celebrities, including the likes of David Foster, Barry Manilow, Diane Warren, Martin Short, Ray Romano, and Ed Begley, Jr., among others.

Please be mindful that Dan played this song with piano and a 69 piece orchestra for the recording. I am doing my own take with just acoustic guitar. This is my favorite song form his catalog of music that he left us.
"In 1977, Dan Fogelberg released his fourth album called Nether Lands, his album title a play on Nederland, Colorado, the location of the studios where he recorded his album."
In Dan's own words about the song......"You have no idea (laughs). I cut the track solo and then I hired Dominic Frontiere, the arranger, and I worked with him for a couple of days. And then we went in and they had a 69-piece orchestra. We played the chart, and then I freaked out and ran out and re-wrote the whole thing (laughs) at the session. This thing went like eight hours with 69 pieces. You wouldn’t be able to do that today, it’s cost prohibitive. I mean we were just nuts (laughs). My friend Norbert Putnam, who produced it, and I were having a great time. He bought a whole cooler of Dom Perignon and we were saying, “Boy, this is gonna be great, isn’t it.” And here are all these people and we’re out at the Burbank Sound Stage where they do the movies. We’re drinking champagne before the thing even started, thinking we were just going to sit there and listen. And I heard the first chart and just went, “Oh my God!” It sounded like a train wreck. So I was half lit to begin with, and then I had to go out and try and tell these guys what I wanted them to play. It was a long night (laughs). It was a great night in retrospect". Fifty-years-ago this month, Dan Fogelberg released the incredible album, "Souvenirs."

During the pandemic, the members of Connections (well, mostly me) had the idea to record "Gambler," and put out a video. We never got the project done. None of the video was shot, and some of the tracks never recorded....

But I assembled what we did have, and here you go...not great...but an homage to the man who helped us start our band...and the great record that came out, 50 years go, this month.

Jung station creator Anthony Vanderburgh is an Emmy-winning Composer, Producer and Songwriter. Vanderburgh has worked with artists ranging from Alanis Morrissette to Canadian songwriting legend Dan Hill.  He has won multiple awards, including an Emmy in 2009 for the theme song to the animated series 6teen.

Eric is a musician, minister, writer and blogger, who has performed throughout Texas and the Southwest. He's an engaging live performer whose first CD was released in 2000. His songs have won honorable mention in both the Billboard and Great American song contests; and he's been a finalist in the 5th Street Festival and South Florida Folk Festival songwriter competitions.

Eric is also a leader of Connections, a unique band comprised of United Methodist clergy and layfolk from throughout North Texas. I have enjoyed music for as long as I can remember and cannot remember a day of not either singing or listening to music. I am self-taught when it comes to playing guitar but what I most enjoy is singing which I have been doing since around age 18. Now retired singing and playing the guitar is now just a hobby and something I do to help pass the time. Have always  loved the sound of a Martin guitar.
