This is part of an ongoing project to recreate and expand upon the original Game Boy Advance OST for DKC3 by David Wise. Inspired by Jammin' Sam Miller and his soundtrack restorations of the original SNES trilogy, I'm aiming to do a similar treatment for this version of the game, but with modern virtual instruments. I mean to expand upon the song arrangements so they build a bit more and don't just loop or fade out.

While GBA's Mill Fever is super catchy and super Wise-y, a lot of folks say it doesn't fit the theme. I somewhat agree that the SNES version is more fitting instrument-wise, but the arrangement on the GBA is too good to count out for any reason. With this one, I wanted that oh-so-tasty mood shift to really pay off, and in order to do that, I needed to substantially add to the front half of the piece. Hope you'll dig it.

The goal of Mixing & Mastering is to put together a track in such a way that all instruments are clearly audible. To test my ability to do this, I took a beautiful old game song from my childhood that had to be compressed beyond small details to fit in the game. I located the original samples and the data used to play it, plugged it in, and got the original uncompressed sound in crisp quality. I also mixed and mastered it so that every little detail could be heard and in a decent listening environment, it fills the room. The result is a perfect restoration. Ladies and gentlemen, David Wise's 'Aquatic Ambience', in all the HD detail it was meant to be heard in.
