Yulia Niko Releases Body Language Vol. 26 on Get Physical.

For those who follow the ever-shifting contours of underground electronic music, few names resonate with as much assured vision as Yulia Niko. Having methodically teased the soundscape of her forthcoming compilation over the past months, she now unveils ‘Body Language Vol. 26’, a record that stands as both a statement of intent and an act of refined curation. Out now via Get Physical Music, the compilation maps an evolving terrain where emotion, texture and rhythm converge with an elegant restraint rarely achieved in club music today.

Launched in 2005 by Berlin-based label Get Physical Music, the Body Language series has become one of dance music's most essential and enduring mix compilation series. Each edition serves as a curated journey, blending exclusive tracks and remixes that push the boundaries of house and techno. With contributions from luminaries like Booka Shade, WhoMadeWho and andhim, the series has consistently showcased a commitment to innovation and musical depth, influencing both DJs and listeners worldwide. Now, with Vol. 26, Yulia Niko continues this tradition, offering a fresh perspective while honoring the series' rich legacy.

The project unfolds over eleven tracks, as she unveils a deftly balanced selection that plays like a nuanced narrative. It moves from the effervescent, sun-warmed piano house of ‘So In Love With You’, through to the nocturnal depths of ‘Bad Habits’ – a reverent yet freshly dark reimagination of Jenny Burton’s ’85 anthem, co-produced with Alfonso Muchacho – before arriving at the skeletal, hypnotic minimalism of ‘Just Just’; a deft reworking of a Rework classic.

Central to the compilation’s identity is the never-before-heard ‘Takina’, a collaboration with Alexey Union and Kinky Sound that crystallizes the collection’s ethos. Here, the trio build a layered soundscape that is at once muscular and atmospheric, weaving taut grooves with shimmering melodic detail and careful injections of ethnic instrumentation that add an organic, textured edge. ‘Takina’ is a moment of clarity - a track where the dancefloor’s kinetic energy is distilled through a lens of emotional depth and technical sophistication. It is a track that doesn’t shout but commands attention, embodying the subtle power that runs throughout the compilation.

Elsewhere, the album serves as a showcase for Yulia’s dexterity as both producer and remixer, taking on material from the likes of Helsloot, Calussa & Malone and Chelonis R. Jones, reshaping them with a meticulous ear and an intimate understanding of space and tension. Each piece is threaded together by Yulia’s unmistakable touch: a sensibility that privileges emotional resonance and groove over bombast, crafting music that feels timeless yet vividly of the moment.

Based across Berlin and Ibiza, Yulia Niko has established herself as a vital voice in modern house and techno. Obsession Sessions IV is a Disco-themed concept I've been putting together for ages. This was one of the few planned mixes I've ever played out at Sublime Sundays. I tried recording Obsession Sessions IV in one take a few times, and songs would randomly be corrupted; but others that weren't corrupted on previous takes would be corrupted on subsequent takes. I know--super important detail. Obsession Sessions IV--like the other mixes in the OS series--is 60 tracks and about 4.5 hours long. Not sure what it is about the number 60, but the puzzle pieces always fit for me. I dunno--this last detail is pretty important. . .

This is the tail end of OS IV when I decided to break it into pieces and splice/ merge them together in Logic Pro. The first and second ends were recorded at subsequent days at Gelato Vero for Rise Ritual and the last day of Sublime Saturdays. I'd been working on this theme for three years; and I finally nailed down the format in a way that makes sense to me.

It all fit under a lttle, bittersweet bow. The theme of OS is long, layered transitions and all of them (besides OS I) are mixed in complementary keys. This adds a special, harmonic element that makes me obsess on them when I complete them. They also need to be a certain level of quality for me not to cringe. This one, in particular, is the last of the series I'm going to complete for a while, if ever. All of them were concepts I'd been thinking about and compiling for a few years. You need to know that I was highly critical of everything until it just snapped together. The few parts that I picked up to be less-than-perfect are acceptable; especially since I only gave myself a few bars to ready a lot of the following transitions. I pushed myself.

As the son of a professional flamenco singer, Thomas has always been surrounded by music.  Exposure to flamenco influenced him because it has a dynamic range of emotions—from the "deep singing" style of cante hondo, to the more lively alegrias.  He has also worked in the corporate, independent, and online music industry for a number of years.  At one point he was a Content Manager for the Electronic Music genre at MP3.com, where he screened over 500 songs per day.  Exposure to a wide range of music explains the range of genres in his mixes—he uses whatever carries the mood.  From listening to Umm Kulthum's "Enta Omri" in his childhood, to New Wave and  Industrial as a teen, it became difficult for him to stick to one sound. Though vinyl was his original format of choice when he started in the 90s, the use of digital mixing has helped him better form soundscapes to expand your headspace.  Let him play with your moods for a spell.

Project MKOFTEN was a covert Department of Defense program developed in conjunction with the CIA. A partner program to MKSEARCH, the goal of MKOFTEN was to "test the behavioral and toxicological effects of certain drugs on animals and humans".

According to author Gordon Thomas' 2007 book, Secrets and Lies, the CIA's Operation Often was also initiated by the chief of the CIA's Technical Services Branch, Dr. Sidney Gottlieb, to "explore the world of black magic" and "harness the forces of darkness and challenge the concept that the inner reaches of the mind are beyond reach". As part of Operation Often, Dr. Gottlieb and other CIA employees visited with and recruited fortune-tellers, palm-readers, clairvoyants, astrologists, mediums, psychics, specialists in demonology, witches and warlocks, Satanists, other occult practitioners, and more.
