Nel 2006 per merito della Key Note Multimedia di Maurizio Clemente è uscito anche in Italia in DVD il film documentario MAESTRO di Josell Ramos che tratta la nascita del Clubbig a New York e parla di tutti i DJs pionieri di questo fenomeno mai tramontato, vi consiglio se non lo avete già fatto di vederlo. Allegato ai due DVD del film c'era anche un CD con la colonna sonora e io all'epoca usandone due con due lettori Pioneer 100S ne feci un set come tributo, ascoltate se volete.

Late Night Classics With Wil Milton 6.3.24

Nova York era o cenário da Disco nos anos 70’s, liderados por grandes Djs, onde deixava suas influências a quem visitava. A Disco nasceu no Dia dos Namorados 1970, quando pela primeira vez, David Mancuso organizou a primeira de uma série de festas que ficaram conhecidas como LOFT. David Mancuso e Dj Francis Grasso estabeleceram uma cultura sonora e social contagiante, no famoso BOCA A BOCA, com a mídia mal sabendo de sua existência, permanecendo uma Cena Underground.
Os clubes The Gallery, The Paradise Garage, e a Festa Loft de David Mancuso, foram os mais importantes da cena Disco Underground.
Em 1977, as coisas começaram a mudar, quando Steve Rubell e Ian Schager abriram a Studio 54, como um ponto de encontro de celebridades. A partir desse momento, a cultura da Disco de Nova York começaram a circular nas mídias globais, e logo depois, com lançamentos do Filme Brooklyn Disco, Saturday Night Fever.

A história da Disco Music nos anos 70’s, começa como um movimento Underground em Nova York, bem longe dos holofotes da grande mídia, com reflexo da fusão cultural e social que ocorria nas comunidades Afro Americanas, Latinas e LGBTQ+. Os Clubes Underground da época e as festas privadas, foram o berço desse movimento. 

David Mancuso e a a festa no LOFT foi o pioneiro da Disco com sua festa lendária realizada em seu apartamento em Nova York. Na verdade O Loft não era Club Tradicional, era um espaço privado, onde David Mancuso experimentava som, iluminação criando uma experiência imersiva e espiritual. O Foco era a música, tocada em um sistema de som de alta qualidade para a época na qual era revolucionário, e David Mancuso evitava técnicas tradicionais de Djs, como mixagens contínuas, ele priorizava mais as sequências emocionais de cada faixa, afinal, em su as festas os destaques iam para os Dançarinos e não os Deejays criando uma energia única.

Nessa época, Djs e produtores, assim como gravadoras, clubs, foram fundamentais na cena Underground da Disco Music, trazendo cada um a sua abordagem única:

- Larry Levan era Conhecido por criar sets que mesclavam a Disco, House, Gospel e R&B, no Club Paradise Garage, onde ele tornou um dos clubs mais influentes da História.

- Nick Siano foi fundador do The Gallery, um Club que ajudou a moldar a experiência da Disco.

- Walter Gibbons, era inovador nas técnicas de remix e edições, sendo o primeiro a fazer faixas extended, para manter a energia na pista de dança.

-  Tom Mouton, foi criador do conceito “Disco Mix”, introduzindo o formato do disco de 12 polegadas e produziu versões extended  de faixas que revolucionaram o gênero.

- Tee Scott, foi outro pioneiro na incorporação de Drum Machines e equipamentos de mixagens, ampliando os limites da Disco.

- John Luongo, era  Dj e remixava faixas que ganharam popularidade em Clubs Underground.

- Jellybean Benitez, com raízes  na cena Disco, ajudou a transitar para o Dance Pop nos anos 80’s.

As Grandes gravadoras foram fundamentais para a ascensão da Disco Music, pois sem elas não seria possível, afinal elas apoiaram o movimento Underground e impulsionaram o mercado com grande produções de hits:

- Philadelphia Internacional Records : Criada por Kenny Gamble e Leon Huff, criou um som refinado combinando elementos do Soul e do Funk que deu direcionamento para a Disco. Hits como Love Train do O’jays e TSOP(The Sound Of Philadelphia) dos MFSB são alguns exemplos de clássicos.

- Saulsoul Records : Grande influência a gravadora ela teve para a Disco, principalmente influências latinas e do Soul. Clássicos como Runaway  de Salsoul Orchestra e Love Sensation de Loleatta Holloway foram hits.

- West End Records : Gravadora que era especializada em músicas Dancefloor, ou seja, para pista de dança.

Toda essa Cultura Underground da Disco antes dos holofotes da mídia, foi mais que um estilo musical, envolveu toda uma cultura, onde desafiou normas sociais e promoveu inclusão nos Clubs, afinal havia uma mesclas de gêneros, orientações sexuais e raças, algo raro na época.

Quando a Disco finalmente entrou para o Mainstream(Comercial), vocês que tem uma certa idade igual a minha, devem ter visto pela Globo no final dos anos 70’s, uma repostagem que foi ao ar pelo fantástico feita pelo repórter Hélio Costa sobre a Lendária Boate Studio 54, a parte da essência Underground foi comercializada, os pioneiros e os blues underground da época estabeleceram bases para a cultura dance que continua a influenciar a música eletrônica e o cenário de Clubs até hoje.

Tudo começou com um movimento Underground que conectava comunidades marginalizadas em espaços seguros. The Loft e os Clubs e Djs como Mancuso, Levan, desempenharam um papéis importantes no cenário da criação e evolução. Mesmo após a ascensão ao comercial(Mainstream), o impacto e a inovação dos dias Underground continuam a ser celebrados como o verdadeiro espírito da Disco.

I am mainly a House Music DJ, but i like to dive into it's roots.
I set some parties to share those sounds focus on Disco like music, named DiscoPony and hold at Bernadette in Lille (France).

So here the first one of the serie, a 3h set that was also braodcasted on ONIB radio.

Disco, is the roots of house music.
I tryed to figure out what are the best disco track ever, in order to share it.
I did a 1000+ ranking mainly based on the one already done by discomusic.com website. (now closed)
- A top 700 based on 70's & 80's Disco Djs ranking of this era.
- A top 500 based on discomusic.com member's votes.

I add to these ranking 5 top 100 given by different Gen AI : Chat GPT, Mistral AI, Gemini, Claude & Deep Seek.
I supress the mistakes they have made and create a final ranking.

Now i have a ranking, i start a mix series of these best tracks, and broadcast them on ONIB Disco radio.

David Mancuso, a then 25-year-old record collector and audiophile, threw his first “Love Saves the Day” party on Saturday, February 14, 1970. For $2.50, guests were treated to coat check, non-alcoholic refreshments, high fidelity sound, and a selection of music as diverse as the crowd in attendance. This vehemently non-commercial, unpretentious loft party would not only invent an entirely new type of dance culture, but inspire the likes of Dany Krivit, Larry Levan, Nicky Siano and DJ Harvey to become DJs themselves. However, fame and legacy were never the intended outcomes of the Loft. Mancuso’s singular mission for his gatherings was to build community through music, one record at a time.

Renzo Master Funk aka R M F classe 1957 inizia ad avvicinarsi alla consolle proprio nei primi anni ’70 quando le balere e le sale da ballo incominciavano ad assumere le sembianze di discoteche passando per la musica rock, soul, funky, jazz, disco, punk, wave, psichedelica, rap, elettrofunk,… fino ad arrivare a Riccione nei primi anni ’80 [vedi: Insomnia-Cattolica, Lili’ Marleen-Misano Adriatico (diventato poi Vae Victis-Echoes-Liz), Ripadiscoscesa-Rimini, Kinki-Bologna, Graffio-Modena, Manila-Firenze, Vidia-Cesena, Plegyne-Firenze,…] poi l’avvento della “House Music” nel 1984 che ha rappresentato un grosso cambiamento per Renzo anche nel nome Renzo “Master Funk” e che lo ha visto in Italia come uno dei primissimi dj promotori di questo genere; per questo motivo e’ uno dei protagonisti principali del film-documentario sulla “House Music” in Italia (1984-1994) “Italo House Story” (*) della key note multimedia; da qui in avanti comincia la storia piu’ conosciuta di R M F al pubblico delle discoteche odierne, le sue collaborazioni come dj resident con i disco clubs piu’ prestigiosi d’Italia [Peter Pan-Riccione, Pascia’-Riccione, Spirity Club-Carpi, Paradiso-Rimini, Cellophane-Miramare, Harem/Insomnia Zone-Misano Adriatico (diventato poi Vae Victis-Echoes-Liz), Club dei Nove Nove-Gradara, Gina-Modena, Gossip-Roma, Fixx Pescara, Underground City-Popoli….] nel 1989 tramite Maurizio Clemente (suo amico/agente “Caus’n Effect”) e’ il primo dj italiano di “House Music” che suona a Tokyo al “Gold” ed al “Can U Still Dance” assieme a un dj Harvey ancora ragazzino, suona anche a Londra al “Confusion de Londra” di Kid Batchelor, poi ritorna all’estero nel 1995  al “Mach One” di Norimberga con Danny Tenaglia.....
Ancora oggi R M F riesce con le sue sonorita’ sempre diverse e i suoi ritmi armoniosamente aggressivi a coinvolgere il pubblico dei disco clubs che si rispecchia nella sua musica mai banale e sempre all’avanguardia.

Renzo Master Funk aka RMF 1957 class starts to approach the console right in the early 70's when balloons and dance halls began to take on the look of discos through rock, soul, funky, jazz, disco, punk, wave music , psychedelic, rap, electrofunk, ... until arriving in Riccione in the early 1980s [see Insomnia-Cattolica, Lili 'Marleen-Misano Adriatico (now Vae Victis-Echoes-Liz), Ripadiscoscesa-Rimini, Kinki-Bologna, Graffio-Modena, Manila-Florence, Vidia-Cesena, Plegyne-Florence, ...] and then the advent of "House Music" in 1984 which was a big change for Renzo also in the name Renzo "Master Funk" in Italy as one of the first dj promoters of this genre; for this reason he is one of the main protagonists of the documentary film "House Music" in Italy (1984-1994) "Italo House Story" (*) of the Key Note Multimedia; From here onwards begins the most well-known story of RMF in the audience of today's discos, his collaborations as dj resident with the most prestigious disco clubs in Italy (Peter Pan-Riccione, Pascia-Riccione, Spirity Club-Carpi, Paradiso-Rimini, Cellophane-Miramare, Harem / Insomnia Zone-Misano Adriatico (now Vae Victis-Echoes-Liz), Club dei Nove Nove-Gradara, Gina-Modena, Gossip-Roma, Fixx Pescara, Underground City Popoli .... ] in 1989 via Maurizio Clemente (his friend / agent "Caus'n Effect") is the first Italian dj of "House Music" that plays in Tokyo at "Gold" and "Can U Still Dance" with a dj Harvey still a kid, also plays in London at "Confusion de London" by Kid Batchelor, then returns abroad in 1995 to "Mach One" in Nuremberg with Danny Tenaglia .....
Even today, R M F plays with its ever-changing sonority and its harmoniously aggressive rhythms to engage the audience of disco clubs that is reflected in its ever banal and always avant-garde music.

I was born in the late 60's, but only in the late 70's I got to absorb the disco era. I was a listener, but always with a keen sense. It was where everything began, a passion for eletronic music.

In the 80's, these most intensely lived, and for me one of the best. I absorbed a generation of true musicians, which adds even more knowledge and feeling.

Nowadays, with all knowledge that I have gotten, I look intensely all the songs of the past. I really miss those times and I do not deny. After all, having this feeling is a spiritual universe, where we bring with us in our lives, everything good that we got. It is our story on a journey throughout time, going back, reviving às if it were the first time, remembering, inventing everything again making the "now" become Alive as in the pas, becoming a source of life.

Music is a cycle that goes back and forth. As I mentioned, I miss those times, but I did not stop in time, I enjoy the pasta and the present. I think I do define myself as an only style. I always say I like music and with the keen sense I have, I listen to the songs and if I believe they sound good to my ears, that's what I will believe. House is the base. However, in my sets there might be a tech house, a techno, or rather any Söns that may please my ears.

Nowadays, I live intensely researching everything from the past until the current days.

Nasci no final de 60's, logo, fui absorver a era DISCO já no final de 70's, era ouvinte, mas sempre com um feeling aguçado. Foi onde tudo começou a paixão pela Música Eletrônica.

Nos anos 80's, esses mais vividos intensamente, e para eu um dos melhores, absorvi uma geração de verdadeiros musicistas, o que veio acrescentar ainda mais o conhecimento e o feeling.

Hoje, com todo conhecimento que absorvi, busco intensamente todas as músicas do passado, sou sim, verdadeiro SAUDOSO, e não me nego ser saudoso, afinal a saudade é um universo espiritual, onde trazemos conosco em nossas vidas tudo de bom que absorvemos, é a nossa história em uma viagem pelo tempo, indo atraz, revivendo como se fosse a primeira vez, lembrando, recordando, podendo inventar tudo novamente, fazendo com que, o agora, torne vivo como no passado, tonando-me fonte de vida.

A música é um ciclo, vai e volta. Como falei acima, sou saudoso, porém, não parei no tempo, curto o passado e o presente. Acho que não me defino por um estilo somente, gosto sempre de falar que gosto de música, e com o feeling aguçado que tenho, ouço as músicas, e se eu acreditar, soar bem aos meus ouvidos, é o que acreditarei. A House é a base, entretanto, em meus sets, pode ter um Tech House um Techno....ou melhor qualquer música que agradar aos meus ouvidos.

Hoje, vivo intensamente pesquisando, desde tudo do passado, até os dias atuais.
