"Amotik recruits Norway's Kameliia and Dallas-based Decoder for the third split EP on his increasingly essential AMTK+ label.

Kameliia's hypnotic and atmospheric music has appeared on the likes of Overbalance and Unterwegs, where she has previously flexed her sophisticated take on sound design and heady soundscapes with driving and physical grooves. Decoder recently started his new Toca label with Jay York and has previously appeared on labels like Subsist, Float and Jeff Mills' legendary Axis.

Kameliia kicks off with the heavy and thumping 'Beyond', combining forceful drums and a slow, mystical synth lead that encourages you to follow it deep into the night. '8-12' is another perfect fusion of the head and body with supple percussion smeared with balmy and cosmic chords for a classy and immersive cut.

Decoder opens the B-side with 'Kalpavriksha', a twitchy and paranoid cut laced with bleeps and pulses, crafting a futuristic soundscape that grows ever more intense. 'Swayambhu' brings experimental shades with its tightly interlaced drums and synths beneath an unsettling synth line that whistles like a storm. Closing the release is the excellent 'Velinattu,' a buoyant track that’s warm and full of delicate percussive layers."

You'd be hard pressed to come up with a production team with as diverse a CV as Decoder and Substance. Part of the hugely influential mid-nineties Bristol scene, between them they've run labels, promoted events, run a record shop and produced a slew of cutting edge underground D&B. And that's before we even get into what they've achieved with their worldwide chart-conquering band Kosheen. And now, for the first time in over a decade, we have some brand new Decoder and Substance material.

“Red” rolls in with a stripped-back rough-edged drum loop straight from the old skool. In the upper registers, Susie Ledge's sparkling vocals meld with silk-smooth strings to hold a perfect counterbalance. Then there's a hint of danger as bass tones rear their head, and the one and only Jakes steps up to the mic to signal the launch of a full-scale junglist assault. And better watch out for that second drop that takes things to a whole new level of filth.

Then Document One get their hands on the stems, and show how they do things. They open up with a pristine electro-tinged combination of percussive arpeggios and reprocessed snippets of Ms Ledge's vocals to create a whole new vibe. The drop brings out a liquid side to the tune, adding the funk that Document One like to bring to the party. Tight drum programming, syncopated bass and builds reinforced with Jakes bars mean that this mix is aimed directly at the dancefloor.

Finally, LA's in the house as Kronology bring their style to bear on “Red” too. They've deconstructed the track and scientifically re-engineered it as a DJ weapon, bringing energy straight from the word go. Rolling drums support the vocals in the intro, before a mighty detuned bassline drops. And the track keeps building from there, as additional layers of percussion raise the temperature. Adding in the extra ingredient of Susie's vocals and modulating pads give an extra twist of euphoria to proceedings. This is one to keep the rave moving.

“Red” combines the dark rave elements of classic Decoder and Substance tunes with the sultry soul that made Kosheen a household name across the globe. Their road-hardened experience combined with two crews from the new generation on remix duties, means that this release is due for some serious rotation.

VNNN. has a clear penchant for techno and its contemporary influences. The Essen-based DJ and producer is not only a key team member behind the Stone Techno festival, but is also a long-serving resident at The Third Room events that boasts bookings such as Jeff Mills, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, DVS1, for example. He also has appearances at clubs further afield alongside artists such as FJAAK, Floorplan, Dax J, Stef Mendesidis, and Bambounou, to name only a few. His tracks have been released on homestead The Third Room, as well as fellow German label Toolboxxx, and he continues to carve out staunch path collaborating with Ahmet Sisman too. This exclusive mix is trippy from the word go, developing a hugely hypnotic opening that really sets the mood and transports. Thoughtful, twisted and expertly curated, the half way point delicately turns the groove knobs up a touch as he finishes off in style by introducing some more stomping grooves and jackin' cuts with some deeper, atmospheric vibes for good measure. I had the idea to start an own podcast series for quite a while now but I was a bit afraid to be honest. I wanted to keep it in a radio show format, as this is the format I grew up with and this was how I’ve discovered music. Also I wanted to do something different as I have a pretty wide range in music which I like. I get influenced by so many things so I thought it might be interesting for you to take this platform as the concept for a podcast. I will dig deeper and deeper through my collection of records and present it to you each month. It doesn’t matter how new or old the music is, it’s just about creating a good vibe to listen to, to enter another dimension.

Moreover the idea is also to invite guests, in irregular intervals - people I respect for what they are doing music wise and for the culture.

Since moving to Berlin in 2014, UK-born DJ and producer Anil Chawla, aka Amotik, has carved out a distinct place in modern techno. Known for his versatile, layered closing sets that emphasise atmospheric storytelling through tension and release, he has built a reputation as a dynamic figure both in the DJ booth and the studio.

In recent years, Amotik has expanded his artistic scope. He launched AMTK+, a sub-label providing a platform for like-minded artists with a shared musical vision. He also collaborated with Answer Code Request on a bass-heavy record for Delsin, giving both artists space to explore their UK and breaks roots. Most recently, he showcased a lighter side with select house sets at Panorama Bar in Berlin, Merge in New York, and Radion in Amsterdam. His touring schedule has taken him to iconic venues such as Berghain, Fold, De School, and Khidi, while he maintains residencies at the revered Goethebunker in Essen and Pax-Romana in Amsterdam.

Alongside notable releases on labels like 47, BPitch, and Figure, Amotik's critically acclaimed albums Vistār and Patanjali have further cemented his reputation as a visionary producer, earning praise from Mixmag and Groove Magazine. 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of his self-titled imprint - not just a milestone, but a testament to perseverance, proving that consistency, dedication, and staying true to one’s sound can shape a lasting career in an ever-evolving scene.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
