Welcome to Groove Theory.
For this 21st episode, I have the pleasure of hosting the legendary Maus to the podcast.
Maus was raised on jazz and disco in beautiful Montreal, Quebec. She's been a key player in the Montreal scene since the late 90’s, shaking up minds and dance floors with her unique an creative approach to electronic music. Her signature style is deep with a rolling groove and a funky touch that gets everyone up and moving on the dance floor.

Maus launched her career with a European tour in 2000, promoting her debut CD Intersections, earning praise from outlets like XLR8R, Urb, and Coda, and performing at festivals like Sonar and Francofolies. After a residency in Spain, she shifted from drum & bass to house and techno, headlining Montreal’s Cream Festival in 2002 and releasing Cream '03. Maus began producing music in 2004, releasing her debut EP Let Go with Thoughtless Music in 2008. By 2015, she relocated to Mexico, launching Danse Contact in Playa del Carmen and touring Central America before returning home.
Maus has been a resident DJ at arguably the best club in North America, Montreal’s Stereo Nightclub and hosted several nights, including her monthly, Danse Contact, at local club Salon Daome. Over the years, she held residencies at infamous after hours clubs such as Sona, Aria and others. She's also had the pleasure of playing many of Montreal’s top music festivals, including Igloofest, Montréal en Lumières, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Les Francofolies, among others. Maus has also been a fixture at Piknic Electronik since their very first edition, returning to headline at their 10th and 15th anniversary.

This release dives into the deeper end of dub techno with two hypnotic tracks from @Inzajeano and @marekbartunek. Built for the dance floor and solitary moments, these compositions layer rolling grooves with dense atmospheres—sometimes colliding, dissolving into one another, creating a dynamic yet introspective sonic space. Cold Dubs blurs where and how music is experienced, where club rhythms fade into shadowy dub echoes, pulling you into something visceral and immersive.

Brian is a Canadian-born Romanian who has always had a deep connection with music. Having picked up his first DJ controller 15 years ago, his evolution of mixing through different genres of music, from hip-hop, to rock, to EDM, and more, helped define his taste and his current sound.

It’s all about the groove. Whether it’s house, minimal, deep house, or tech house, Brian likes to take the crowd on a journey with eclectic grooves, punchy basslines, and crisp percussions that bring the best dance moves out of everyone. His mission? Sharing positivity with people through music. Nothing brings him more pleasure than seeing the crowd enchanted and dancing with one another. 

In April of 2023, Brian launched his own podcast and event series: Groove Theory. GT's mission is to celebrate the art of house and minimal music. Every month, Brian invites a different artist to showcase their unique sound. These artists will intricately dissect their creative system and express themselves through rhythms, beats, and melodies that will make both experienced and casual dancers move to the groove.
