Premiere: Tojami Sessions - What Is Love

Spanish-Portuguese duo DJ Ino & MC Johnny Def join forces with UK imprint Deep Site Recordings for the sublime Balearic Deep House cut 'Freedom', packaged with hypnotic gem 'All Together' on the b-side.

Performing together for over 20 years across Mexico, Spain, and Portugal, long-standing musical partners DJ Ino & MC Johnny Def gained wider popularity thanks to their 2017 smash 'Love Is In The Air', which became an underground anthem for Deep House heads all over the globe.

Title track 'Freedom' opens with DJ Ino's distinctive sparse and pristine production, before unfolding into a soul-stirring melodic affair, offering up Latin guitar flourishes and seductive vocal touches. MC Johnny Def matches the track's hopeful and meditative vibe with powerful spoken words which explore themes of humanity, unity and, of course, Freedom.

'All Together' serves up trackier, more dancefloor-oriented flavours, while keeping the tempo slow and the lights low. Dubby bass and straight-up drums keep the tune grounded, while angelic vocal snippets and shimmering chords provide soaring moments of flight. Like any good musician, MC Johnny Def knows when to step in, and when to just lay back and let the groove ride. His contribution here is minimal but effective, and the message, once again, is one of positivity and empowerment. "I believe that no-one dictates what I think, what I believe. I wanna become whatever I wanna be... Whatever I was meant to be".

The 8th instalment of Deep Site's 'Vinylized' limited edition 12" series sees German producer Frankman and Catelan Alex V join forces to supply four generous portions of Deep House dope on wax. A DJ and producer since the early 90s, Frankman was heavily involved in shaping Leipzig’s unique Deep House scene. Frankman has held residencies at the city's most iconic venues since '92, founding The 'FM Musik' imprint with Ralf Bürger in 1998. He's since gone on to perform all over the country and release on mythic imprints such as Dessous and Cocoon. Alex V is truly one of the unsung heroes of Deep House. His distinctive, effortless, yet deceptively complex production style has been bubbling in the underground, a mainstay in the digital crates of diggers and DJs since '99. After moving to the UK, Alex founded his Sophisticate Recordings label in 2008, and continues to develop his sound, which seems to get more accomplished with every release. Alex V's 'Impulse' opens proceedings, a pristine and warm mid-tempo groover with pristine sonics and soaring synth pads. Frankman makes his entrance on the A-side with 'Lonely Move', a hypnotic and atmospheric gem which steadily unfolds into something quite mesmerising. Frankman opens the B-side with 'Nothing But Darkness', providing a moodier, more introspective feel with soul-stirring synth chimes cutting through the groove like the sun through clouds. Alex V takes over to close out the side, and the EP, with a floaty melodic techno cut entitled 'Aura', summoning up a mellow, soft-focus 80's movie dream sequence. Oliver Marquardt

Born in East Berlin, Oliver Marquardt was first inspired to become a DJ when the 1984 Break Dance Film "Beat Street" permeated the city's isolated music scene. Equally influential was the dance music he listened to broadcasted from West Berlin radio.
After closely following these new music styles - hip hop, acid house etc - Oliver bought his own pair of turntables in 1989.
This was right after the Berlin wall came down, providing fertile soil for the city's new underground music scene to take roots and by the following year Oliver was organizing his own techno parties.
Although his illegal warehouse parties (complete with 50k watt laser lights) were noteworthy in themselves, Oliver forged ahead as one of the first german DJs to establish a nationwide presence. DJ Jauche, as he is known, began a residency at Berlin's legendary „Walfisch“ Club. Also he played regularly at many other Berlin Underground Clubs. By the mid 90's he had presented his unique style throughout Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Spain, Greece, Russia, Hungary and Malaysia, on top of countless clubs and events in his homeland.
Also mid 90's (1995 exactly) he had started his party "Jauchomatic" ( where he brought his brother Sven Marquardt into the club scene and gave him his first job as a "selector/doorkeeper" . Today Sven is famous for his work as an Artist and Photographer and of course as the " Iron Man" selector of Ostgut and now Berghain Club. ) and also the „Jet Stream Club“ and later the „Night Dimensions“ Party - Series.
Oliver still does his party „ Jauchomatic“ once a year in Berlin.
He plays music from 1988 until 1995, from house over techno to some Oldschool Trance Tracks, Acid and Breakbeats.
While the rest of the world still has been associating Germany with its stark techno output, DJ Jauche nurtured a parallel space for deep house sounds to evolve.
In 1998 he launched Jetstream, a small-scale record label of his own. For the 1999 edition of the annual summer festival Loveparade, Oliver prepared under the name Jack Flash a re-edit of the disco classic "Love is in the Air" and pressed 500 white label copies. When the track became an underground hit, he approached the production team Milk & Sugar (who were running a label under the same name) for advice on giving it a bigger release. Without Oliver's knowledge and with a bigger budget they appointed the track's original singer John Paul Young to record new vocals for their own version of the track and received a worldwide major label re-release in 2001, accompanied by a music video. Currently residing in the North East, UK, Rory has been DJing for over 25 years. His early influences were the U.S. west coast House scene, in particular the early Naked Music vibe, Dubtribe Sound System, Miguel Migs, Rasoul, Andy Caldwell, JT Donaldson & Lance Desardi. 

More of Rory’s influences include the likes of Calum Walker, Brendan Costigane, Jimpster, Charles Webster, Vincenzo, DJ Ino, Seph, Steven Garcia, Schmoov, Dj Jauche and Crazy P....you can see it’s an eclectic bag. 

This distinctive sound and its influence is obvious when you hear Rory work a crowd in that individual and unique way that he has made his own by giving you that characteristic Cochrane deep house therapy. Rory has performed at some of the North East’s most prestigious and loved venues over the years, joints such as Stereo Bar, Tokyo Bar, To The Manor Born, The Loveboat, The Purple Onion, Cosmic Ballroom, Distrikt Bar & The Faversham down in Leeds to name a few..... 

His passion for Deep House music makes his sound very current. Rory is now running quality labels such as Deep Site Digital & Deep Site Vinylized along with Croatian DJ/producer and good friend Tom Krizic (DJ Funtom). Rory is also working on some interesting production projects of his own, which have meant remixes and a sweet original track with vocalist Sanna Hartfield 'Focus' on Addex’ label Limitation Music. Other remixes also on labels Oh! Stockholm, Deep Stitched..South Africa, The Purr Music, Sound Vessel Records, Be Adult Music, Personal Belongings, UM Records as well as Deep Site

Over the last few years Rory has played in Croatia, South Africa, Ibiza, Prague and Sao Paulo, Brazil where Rory performed at world famous club 'D-Edge' club  for FREAK CHIC...

More recent performances include Tulum Mexico, opening Lost Tribes @ Vagalume and warming the floor for Los Cabra @ Aguva Rooftop as well as Puro Beach Barcelona, Vlkova26 & Bukanyra Music Boat Prague, Florianopolis Brazil and W hotel in London where Rory also holds his monthly label residency show at the home of Bloop London Radio....
