Catherine O’Melia, Assistant Psychologist, Life Skills Online programme, provides a brief overview of how the online programme works from the perspective of the client and the supporter. ( begins at 7 min. 39 sec)
Dr. Derek Richards highlights some key research findings based on the 2014 Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of the Life Skills Online programme. (begins at 14 min 28 sec.)The RCT addressed the research question:Can we implement an online treatment in the community (Ireland) for those with significant symptoms of depression and can that be effective?
The RCT research findings demonstrate that the use of online intervention works. Participants benefitted. Programme participants were evaluated using the BDI, GAD and WASA measures. Dr. Richards explains that ‘the supporter function’ is a key component of the Life Skills Online programme. This ‘supporter function’ doubles the outcome for participants in terms of effect size.*
*effect size is the measure of positive improvement mapped by comparing 'pre' and 'post' evaluation questionaires completed by participants.



Dr. Derek Richards - Treating Depression With Life Skills Online

A clinically-informed guided rest practice designed to stimulate circulation and counter the heavy, stagnant, inert qualities of Kapha dosha. This protocol uses activating awareness, warming breath, and strategic movement of attention to dissolve the characteristic Kapha patterns of lethargy, emotional heaviness, oversleeping, and resistant inertia.

Unlike traditional yoga nidra, this practice addresses Kapha's specific constitutional needs through:

-Shorter duration to prevent deepening of stagnation
-Warming and energizing cues that counter heaviness without demanding action

After years of clinical practice, I kept seeing the same pattern: people try yoga nidra and either fall into a dead sleep, get more anxious, or feel nothing at all. That's because traditional yoga nidra treats all nervous systems the same. Your nervous system has a constitution.
