In this first part, John explains the life and work of polymath and founder of the study of cybernetics, Norbert Wiener. We discuss the parallels between Wiener's thinking and Marxism, the ways that his conception of cybernetics requires a dialectical outlook at the world, and how the systems theory approach of cybernetics can help us understand complex events, including in the realm of politics and organizing. Ryan and Todd analyze the recently concluded television series Succession. They discuss it in terms of capitalist subjectivity, tragedy, the death drive, and the ideology of the family. There are spoilers at every point in this discussion.

Succession

Yin and Yang (n.) - the concept of duality forming a whole. A fundamental premise in Chinese philosophy now transposed to the electronic dance industry through the creation of Proton "Editions". Through encyclopaedic knowledge of the 2,000+ strong Proton roster of labels Tripp Baronner has envisioned a new concept of the principle of seemingly polar opposites, coming together as interconnected and independent universal forces - life and death, the dark and the light: one complete entity. 

From a passion for underground progressive house at opposite ends of the audio spectrum - the deep, shadowy atmospheres to the blissful, shimmering melodies, "Yin" and "Yang" were born in an effort to represent this phenomenon in musical form. Each release will provide a single remix of an existing Proton roster track for two inextricably linked labels in the form of a light (Yang) and dark (Yin) edition. Released on the same day, a strong contrast in styles will thus serve to complement each other and nourish the whole.

Since its childhood Dialectics has been fascinated by music. He listened to a wide spectrum of musical styles, always with the same common denominator: funk and attitude.

In 2017 he got the crazy idea to deepen its connection to music, dove into mix and music production and fell in love with his new passion.

Perfecting his craft in the studio made him now an international artist with releases on well established labels like Complex Destroyerz, House of Hustle, Baikonur Records, OFDM, Wyldcard Records, ... 

His punchy music is influenced by old school hip-hop, ghetto, jackin and bass house, and have received the support from Chelina Manuhutu, Lexlay, Alaia & Gallo, Kolombo, ... 

Each week he broadcasts his radio show “Wag Ya Quirk” on Warm (a Belgian electronic music radio) where he showcases the hottest house & tech house releases.

Why Theory brings continental philosophy and psychoanalytic theory together to examine cultural phenomena.
