DJ Zaffa is a Venice-based DJ and selector with over two decades of experience in the underground music scene. Starting out at just 15, he was raised on a steady diet of funk, soul, and disco — thanks to a family immersed in nightlife and crate-digging culture. His sets reflect that upbringing: eclectic, groove-driven, and rooted in a deep appreciation for music across decades. Zaffa weaves together jazz-funk, boogie, ‘80s synth sounds, early house, and contemporary shades of techno and electronica, building sets that feel both nostalgic and forward-thinking. A skilled digger and thoughtful curator, he approaches DJing as a storytelling craft — prioritizing flow, energy, and mood over flashy transitions or obvious hits.

Beyond clubs, Zaffa is active in radio and podcast culture, notably through his series “Laguna Waves,” which explores underground and alternative sounds with guests like Robert Babicz. He has performed across Italy and played internationally with gigs in cities like London, Paris, or Zurich, steadily building a reputation for authenticity and musical depth. His selections have also been featured on platforms such as My Analog Journal (UK) or Sacré Radio (France).

Lumberjacks in Hell has been founded in 2010. Intimate Friends followed in 2013. For some people the difference or the need for distinction between these two is quite evident but to give you an idea. Lumberjacks is always 100% for the dance floor, inspired by the music from Chicago and Detroit which is not only reflected in the Artists we release. Intimate Friends is a headier affair. Soul, Hip Hop and House are all fair game. If you check the releases next to each other both labels have a distinct sound. And maybe a certain BPM range. This isn't saying that some of the music couldn't have appeared on either label but somehow it all makes sense to me.
