Disquiet hacking warning. I didn’t feel like doing something rhythm-focused, so I doubled down on Blippoo box style clocking. 

Three generative VCV voices all driven by a single chaotic clock. Each voice is assigned a clock divider (5, 6, and 7) to meet the 3 meters requirement.

Disquiet0567 Unruly Meters

This started with a kick in 5/8, snare in 6/8 and hats in 7/8. Then bass was added in 5/8 and modular in 7/8. I used Felt Instruments' Smugi filter bank sequencing the filters in 5/8 time for the bass and 5/8 and 7/8 for the modular. Modular voice was 2HP Pluck through a Doepfer Wasp filter, sequenced and modulated using CV Toolkit. Drums are Ableton's Core 909.

This week's Disquiet Junto assignment is to make music that moves between 5/8, 6/8 and 7/8. The main phrase of this is 2 bars of each. 

The opening synth and the claps are doing something different. 

The first synth plays 5 bars of 5/8, then 5 of 6/8, then 5 of 7/8, back down to 6/8, back down to 5/8, and repeat...

The claps are constant polymeters - three patterns, one in each time signature, happening at the same time.

The Assignment: Make music in 5/8, 6/8, and 7/8 time signatures.

I used my Elektron Model:Cycles for this because it’s really flexible with meter. This is based on an arpeggio alternating between 6 and 7, a chime in 6 (at half speed) a bassline in 5, and some percussion in 7. I had no time, so I made it in a rush, and I think it turned out all the better for not thinking about it too hard!

Use a clock divider to trigger on 5, 6 and 7 divisions, each of these going into a sequential switch; slow LFO changing the output routing of the sequential switch, sending a changing reset signal to sequencer controlling the main voice, as well as to the closed hat accent. Added some constant 5 and 6 length sequences running in the background.

The accompanying instrument-groups each have their own time-signatures, whereas the piano-melody changes the signatures between the different sections.

Per the project, some measures in 5/8, 6/8, and 7/8 time signatures. I am not sure if they are correct. It's a bit of a "Do Easy", in that I kept it simple and accept is as a music exercise.

During the early 1990s I studied Mathematics and Computer Science. The world wide web was still largely text-based and mostly empty. Today things are obviously different, though I still thoroughly enjoy art, design, cinema and music in all its forms. I have traveled all over the world for nearly two decades, visiting just over 140 countries. Japan is my favorite. All of this I attempt to incorporate into my music and art.
