"Dark Eyes" (Ochi Chornye) is a world-renowned Russian folk song, whose haunting melody and passionate lyrics have inspired countless arrangements across genres since the late 19th century. The lyrics, written by Ukrainian poet Yevhen Hrebinka in 1843, evoke the mesmerizing and dangerous beauty of a lover’s dark eyes. The melody was adapted from Florian Hermann's "Valse Hommage" (circa 1884), but it was only in the early 20th century that the song gained international popularity.

Over the years, "Dark Eyes" has become a favorite among classical musicians, gypsy jazz performers, and jazz artists alike. The tune’s irresistible harmonic structure and dramatic character make it perfect for reinterpretation—Django Reinhardt, Al Bowlly, Louis Armstrong, and many others recorded their own versions. Djangatos is a Gypsy jazz trio honoring the style of Django Reinhart; Djangatos is a combination of Django and Los Gatos, where all three work in  music store; Robert had an earlier band, Martini Max & the Swing Cats, and the trio came together during Covid, when they played for neighbors & friends on the driveway; new CD = Roulette will be released digitally after the album release party a week from Saturday, with the physical CD available now; the Money Question: are you able to make a living in music and, if so, how? Yes! Robert performs, manages the music store, & gives guitar lessons; bassist Sadie Hallinan just graduated San Jose State, and rhythm guitarist Ron La France was retired, but came out of retirement to "take one for the team" as a luthier at the music store; all the songs are originals written by Robert; a video of "In the Kitchen" is in the plans; dare to dress to impress at the record release party!

Cuenta la leyenda que Solé era la gitana más hermosa de la comunidad, habitaba las tardes con presagios de hadas y sus ojos forjaban el horizonte.
Debido a sus cualidades enigmáticas algunos la llamaban bruja, hechicera, ángel o demonio…
Siempre se supo que amó profundamente a ese gitano, que con su guitarra deslumbraba a todo aquel que lo oía. Una noche un incendio consumió la caravana donde yacían ella y su amado. Después de dicho incidente su presencia se tornó fugaz e imperceptible, como el susurro de la misma muerte. Solo algunos lograban escuchar su canto en las tardes cuando la puesta del sol apenas acaecía.
Con el pasar del tiempo la comunidad gitana debió emigrar de sus tierras, dejando atrás sus sueños, raíces y pertenencias, pero la leyenda de Solé sigue viva aun entre nosotros, sus descendientes, que llevamos su memoria y su alma, que es la música de su hombre amado.
Y ahora la familia Solé.
