Surprise new album and label from London-based producer and Andrew Weatherall collaborator.

‘A Snowstorm in The Tropics’ is Timothy J. Fairplay’s first album since 2017’s ‘Where Is The Champion?’ and the first release on his new label Dungeon Module. Made up partly of tracks popular in Timothy’s recent streamed live performances, but which have never seen full release, and completely new unheard material. Like much of Timothy’s work, it is a mix of Electro, proto-Techno, wave-y Italo and Cosmic Music recorded using only hardware from his studio in a warehouse somewhere in North London. The title track ‘A Snowstorm in The Tropics’ meanders through snow fog Berlin School melodies pinned down by a huge Dub Techno kick. ‘Fish Island Emotion’ is like a lost 80’s Italian House classic. ‘Ecstasy Nausea’ features a return to the deep wrong sample-rate voice Timothy used on the infamous ’Cleopatra Loves The Acid’.

Cassette comes in an old computer game style tape box with a Dungeon Module sticker, plus download.

The second release on Timothy J. Fairplay’s label Dungeon Module is ‘Drowned At 77th Floor’ by Heinrich Dressel. A pseudonym of Valerio Lombardozzi, who over the years has released on labels such as Strange Life, Mannequin, Frustrated Funk as well as his own MinimalRome. On ‘Drowned At 77th Floor’ we find him in classic style, mixing exploitation movie soundtracks with techno and electro. There is a strong feeling of narrative that runs throughout the album, a soundtrack to some Ballardian high rise nightmare, or mysterious drownings in a newly built tower block on recently reclaimed swampland. There is an emotion in Valerio’s music that sets him apart from many other producers in the scene. The opener ‘Death Willow’ acts like the main theme, before the ‘Reemerged From The Swamp’ sets up the story. Available on 100 cassettes and digital.

To celebrate 6 years in the Great Dark Spot, we've invited one of our favorite producers to conjure the soundscape for this momentous storm. Timothy J. Fairplay has long evoked a visionary sound that we are pleased to bring to this mix series. The producer has prepared an hour of wavy electro, house and industrial directly from his studio by the North Sea. 

This month you can catch Tim DJing in Italy's city of Chieti and playing live at the Golden Lion in Todmorden in the UK. This year he has releases coming on @italo_moderni, @disco-frisco as well as a new album on his @dungeon-module imprint.

Another Dungeon Module Production!!!

‘Rule The Streets’ is Timothy “J” Fairplay’s latest album on his label Dungeon Module. After 2021’s ‘A Snowstorm In The Tropics’, 2023 has been a busy year for the label. In February Timothy released ‘Dungeon Module Volume 1’ followed by ‘I Lay Awake At Night Scheming’ in August.

This album was recorded in Timothy’s current studio, with his Casio RZ-1 central to the set up. 8 raw jack tracks inspired by the early days of house music, and catches Timothy at his most minimal. The early days of the Chicago and Detroit and how they drew influence from Europe in their stripped back sound is an endless influence on Timothy’s work. The bumpy opener ‘Rule The Streets’ has a vocal refrain which sounds like something from a 70’s gang movie. ‘Insufficient Funds’ is a playful jam based around a junk shop delay unit. ‘Pleasure Beach’ an 8 bit house/funk beat track. ‘Back To The Stone Age’ with its flanger heavy percussion and a booming Adonis style vocal. Side B starts with ‘Instant Replay’ with its rolling 808 toms and white noise intro. ‘Safety Patrol’ has a deeper Mr Fingers feel, followed by the stalker-ish ‘Gang Bass’ with its sampled live bass and strings. Last of all is ‘Livin’ It Up’ made entirely with the sampler on the RZ-1 sounding like a Lil Louie demo.

Cassette and Digital. Like previous releases on Dungeon Module the cassette version comes in a cool 80s computer game/90’s rave tape pack style case.
