This is one of two AudioMoth recordings that were made on the banks of, and within Carrickalinga Creek over a week in July 2022.The AudioMoths were deployed with the intention of observing the soundscape of two locations and were configured to record for 1-minute at 5-minute intervals over a 24-hour period for the week.

~ Short version of field note: 

With the Middle Farm dam fuller than usual following continual Winter rains, the frogs have descended on the water en masse for their breeding season. Two varieties of frog can be heard in this recording - the dominant sound is that of Southern Brown Tree frogs, whereas the lower 'guiro' sound is the Painted (Burrowing) frog.

FKISM: Frogs in Middle Farm dam, Yankalilla - June 2023

~ Short version of field note: 

Late night in mid-Spring on Middle Farm with the recorder placed on the verandah of the residence. There is still a little water retained in the property's dam and this is where frogs (Southern Brown Tree Frog and Painted Burrowing Frog) collectively sound out into the night ambience. This recording is particularly interesting in the way that the clusters of voices initially dominate the centre of the listening field, before gradually shifting outward widely and isolate to smaller clusters heard in the distance.

FKISM: Distant frog chorus and night ambience, Middle Farm, Yankalilla - October 2022

~ Short version of field note: 

With my ambisonic recording position on a tree branch at about eye-level, I had intended to record the sound of the tall reeds on the banks of the Carrickalinga Creek. In this area, the reeds are dense and having been dried out by the recent summer, are papery and coarse. In the breeze they rustle and scrape together with even the slightest of movement. As I was approaching the area, along with the breeze, I heard a stirring of activity amongst the reeds.
It was a pair of fairy wrens in a courting ritual, whisking through the reeds, settling on stiff fronds, calling out to each other with short clicks.

equeño extracto de 0.31 segs con un paisaje sonoro de aves de Buenos Aires. Grabación capturada en la Residencia Artística "La Zona" ubicada en el Marquesado (a las afueras de Mar del Plata). Se hace más énfasis al Churrinche (Pyrocephalus rubinus) ave que suele migrar por estos lados en primavera y comienzos del verano. Se le puede ver y escuchar muy seguido cuando hay presencia de aves como Tijereta (Tyrannus savana) o también Fiofío Pico Corto (Elaenia parvirostris) y en este audio también podemos apreciar los sonidos del Ganso común (Anser anser) Picazuró (Patagioenas picazuro), Paloma manchada (Patagioenas maculosa) y Verdón (Embernagra platensis), entre otras especies.

Churrinche (Pyrocephalus rubinus) en el Marquesado - María Emilia Pérez

Pequeño fragmento de varias grabaciones de campo donde se podía apreciar a dos Gavilanes mixtos juveniles y un adulto hembra. También una pareja de Colibrí bronceado (Hylocharis chrysura) tomando el néctar de algunas flores de la plaza Unión Latinoamericana ubicado en Almagro, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Pude identificar también otras especies como Tordo Musico (Agelaioides badius), Paloma Doméstica (Columba livia), Hornero (Furnarius rufus) entre otras especies características del paisaje urbano de la gran Capital de Buenos Aires.

Ink Botanic - research extracts (2024)

This is an underwater soundscape collected in a wetland pond in Habataki Park in Fukuoka City (recorded by custom-made hydrophone).
Since the sound could only be heard at the base of the clustered reeds, I assume it was the sound of bubbles from the photosynthesis of the reeds.
The recording is laced with the noise of the reeds swaying in the wind and interfering with the hydrophone cable, as well as the sound of an airplane passing overhead.

Tristan Louth-Robins is a South Australian artist working principally in the medium of sound art and field recording. Ideas of sound and its signification are key elements in Louth-Robins' practice, traversing the space between the visual and aural his work is realised through the mediums of recordings, installation, visual art and performance. He is interested in sound and its associative implications - including its relationship to objects, technology, urban space, memory and the natural world. 


Since 2005, Louth-Robins has presented work in Australia and internationally as a solo artist, whilst also collaborating with artists, writers, researchers, musicians and performers. 

Working across a vast array of activities encompassing composition, sound design, installation art, field recording and workshops, his work has been featured in events such as the Adelaide Festival of Arts (2006), The National Regional Arts Festival (2012), Mildura-Wentworth Arts Festival (2013), Fairfax Festival (2013) and Adelaide Fringe Festival (2014); and selected works exhibited at galleries including The Australian Experimental Art Foundation (2009), SASA Gallery (2012, 2015), Light Square Gallery (2012) and FELT Space (2015). His audio works have been broadcast on radio including Radio National, Classic FM, The BBC (UK), Acoustic Frontiers (USA) and RBB (Germany).
