Leur message est clair : les transitions ne naissent jamais seules. Elles émergent d’alliances solides, d’un courage politique assumé et de communautés qui refusent de lâcher prise.

A changing climate with hotter and drier weather is a challenge for people, but also for lakes, reservoirs and rivers. The Rio Grande river, which runs from Colorado into Mexico, crossing several U.S. states, continues to shrink and to run dry in places where it used to flow. 

Most of the water from the river is used to grow crops like alfalfa and hay to feed livestock, Other crops are cotton and pecans; some water is used for power generation and some for municipal water use. But the river can no longer provide enough water for all those uses. The World Wildlife Fund has made it their mission to revitalize the river. It’s a daunting task, one faced by my guest, Enrique Prunes, Rio Grande Manager and Freshwater Lead Specialist at World Wildlife Fund US.

Pepe Dayaw performed an original ambient ‘live set,’ inviting participants to rest and ponder their connection to human and other-than-human life on this planet. Dayaw blended musical styles, spoken words, and live and recorded sounds, including local colors, exotic motors, and nomadic journeys. Here, for a brief moment, we can listen and move within the spaces between us.

I have been seeking out birds of all shapes and colours, breeding habits and habitats. Some of them are clad in invented feathers and fly through the air of the imagination. You are invited to the train carriage, to twitch for mythical birds.  

In a Train Carriage, Going Nowhere (53: Mythical Birds)

In the first half of the 20th century, a remarkable network of women existed in Sweden. Their activists bridged the intersection of feminism and the ecological commons, linking these issues to peace struggles in the face of war. First, they mobilized against World War I; later, they did the same against World War II. They firmly believed that there could be no peace for the people of the Earth unless they made peace with the Earth. In their 1940 manifesto, “Peace with the Earth”, they wrote, “This involves a paradigm shift and all that it entails in terms of social change.” In other words, they were struggling for nothing less than a social revolution to help overcome patriarchy, capitalism, racism, imperialism, and colonialism. And thus abolish the foundations and drivers of war. As Magdalena Taube explains in her introduction to the BG conference “Pluriverse of Peace,” the term “Pluriverse” evokes such processes and struggles.
