Monster Mondays #371 - The Pit and the Pendulum

Unsung Lines is a vocal and musical project by Russian composer and singer Evgeniy Chalyshev, based on the poetry of classical American writers. At the heart of the project lies a dialogue between word and sound, where music becomes a continuation of poetic thought.
The cycle brings together texts by Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, and other major voices of American literature, revealing their poetry in a new sonic dimension. Unsung Lines exists beyond time and national borders, where the Russian compositional tradition meets the American poetic canon.
The project addresses timeless themes—solitude, memory, inner freedom—and the human voice as a bearer of meaning and the silence between the lines.

Fortunato's Hope

Edgar Allan Poe ist mittlerweile ein armer Student in Boston. Das Verhalten der dortigen Studenten missfällt den Professoren und Stadtvätern, deswegen gibt es eine gerichtliche Untersuchung. Während ein paar Mitstudenten von der Universität ausgeschlossen und sogar Professoren verurteilt werden, gelingt es Edgar nicht weiter aufzufallen, obwohl er neben Alkohol und Glücksspiel, in dieser Zeit auch erste Opiumversuche machte, bei denen er im Rausch in die Berge flüchtete. Seine Erlebnisse und Halluzinationen verarbeitet er in „Eine Geschichte aus den Ragged Mountains”.

… eine Reise in die düstere Gedankenwelt gequälter Seelen. Hinter jedem Album verbirgt sich die frei interpretierte Geschichte einer oder mehrerer Gestalten der Vergangenheit – berühmte Literaten, Philosophen, Künstler und Freigeister – feinfühlige, empfindsame oder aufbrausende Menschen, die uns viel an ihren Gefühlen und ihrem Innenleben teilhaben ließen. Nach gründlichen Recherchen versetzen wir uns in ihre Gedanken und Gefühle und lassen daraus zunächst kunstvolle Texte entstehen, die dann durch die Vertonung zu musikalischen Bildern werden. Der Hörer soll so in die Handlung hineingezogen werden, sich von der Einheit aus Geschichte und Musik entführen lassen und in eine Welt aus Gefühlen, Bedrohung und Schicksalsschlägen eintauchen.

So entstehen stilistisch abwechslungsreiche Alben die sich hauptsächlich irgendwo zwischen klassischem Gothic, Dark Wave, düsterem Electro und Psychedelic bewegen. Besonders wichtig ist uns hierbei die handgemachte Musik auf sphärischen oder effektvollen Synthesizern, Keyboards, E-Gitarren und Flöten, die wir bewusst ohne die Verwendung von Samplern in unserem Studio produzieren.

Alle, die sich für Kunst und Kultur interessieren, sich gerne einfach einmal hinsetzen um einer CD zu lauschen, die sich geistig öffnen und sich von der Musik in eine andere Welt geleiten lassen wollen, haben nun die Möglichkeit die komplexe Erzählweise der Alben „Confessions (from the deep)“ und „1816 – a psychedelic darkwave opera“ auf sich wirken zu lassen. Schließt die Augen, lasst euch mitreißen und erweckt vor euren geistigen Augen vergangene Gestalten zu neuem Leben.
Die Vergangenheit wird neu erwachen, mit der Gegenwart verschmelzen und allen Schmerz und Schrecken fühlbar machen, die nicht neu und auch nicht alt unvergänglich sich durch alle Zeiten ziehen.
