God has revealed himself to mankind generally, particularly and ultimately: generally through the things that have been made (Ro. 1:20), particularly through the Holy Scriptures (Jn. 5:39) and ultimately through Jesus Christ (Heb. 1:2). No one can see the invisible Lord, yet he has revealed himself physically and visibly through the incarnation of  his perfect Son. This divine mystery should compel a sense of wonder and praise in those who have been given new eyes to see his majesty.

Who Is He?

“So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped.”                                                                      

Revelation 14:16 (ESV)

The Lord’s second coming will be glorious and dreadful: glorious for those clothed in the righteousness of Christ but dreadful for all who refused to submit to his lordship. It is the final act of redemptive history where Christ himself enacts God’s judgment upon the living and the dead. This future day is certain, yet God in his mercy is patient with mankind, withholding judgment until the full number of his sheep are brought into the fold.

Crescent Of The Sky

“But God shows his love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

The love of God is unlike any other.  Rooted in grace,  it is both general and specific: granting common blessings upon all people and offering particular redemption to those who put their faith in Him. It shows no partiality and is given to every tongue, tribe and nation. The pinnacle of God’s love is displayed in the person and work of his Son Jesus Christ through the powerful working of the Spirit.

Surpassing Love

"He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever."

2 Samuel 7:13 (ESV)

The Davidic Covenant is a unilateral, unconditional promise that God makes regarding the everlasting throne of His king. Though promised to David, the covenant is fulfilled through Jesus Christ as He occupies this everlasting throne. The blessings secured through His kingly rule include the building up of a temple not made by human hands, but a spiritual house of forgiven saints built upon Christ as the cornerstone.

The royal city saw its king disturbed despite his rest
The creature dwells in comfort but his Maker has a tent
His hands would seek to build a house but then the prophet dreamt

Your son and mine will take his seat and have eternal reign
The earth will be his kingdom and the heavens his domain

"But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled."

Acts 3:18 (ESV)


The suffering servant foretold by the prophets was anticipated by God’s people to come and die that they may live. The prophet Isaiah, 700 years Jesus’ predecessor, spoke of the Lord’s servant who would live among his people and offer himself as a substitutionary sacrifice in their place as sinners. Jesus Christ proved to be the fulfillment of this prophecy according to the scriptures. His life, death and resurrection are testimony that he was the suffering servant who now sits at the right hand of the Father as Lord over all.
