Sami and EJ grew closer when Syndey was kidnapped, but it turned out that EJ had teamed up with Anna DiMera to fake the abduction so he could be the big hero when he brought the girl home safe. So as Sami and EJ prepared to remarry, Rafe interrupted the ceremony with proof of his crimes. Fearing that EJ might kidnap her children, Sami went to confront him, but finding him passed out drunk and holding a gun she just shot him in the head!
Belle Black agreed to represent E.J. in court, but after the devil disguised himself as the DiMera to kiss Abigail, Chad angrily testified against him and E.J. was found guilty of kidnapping. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison where he found himself sharing a cell with Clyde, who he quickly remembered had been responsible for his shooting! Once Belle found evidence that E.J. had been set up, he was set free and they both grew closer as they bonded over their failed relationships with others. As he began regaining power at DiMera, E.J. also began a romance with Belle and when Sami found them in bed together, she washed her hands of the whole thing and left Salem.
When EJ DiMera (James Scott) came to Salem in 2006, "Days of Our Lives" fans were immediately intrigued with the character, as was Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney). When it was revealed that EJ was the son of Susan Banks and Stefano DiMera, things got even more complicated. EJ had moved in across the hall from Sami, and the two often met up. It was later made known that EJ had been summoned to Salem on Stefano's orders to kill John Black and seduce Sami in order to carry on the DiMera name with a member of the Brady family (via She Knows Soaps).
After their very dramatic start, "Days of Our Lives" viewers eventually watched Sami Brady and EJ DiMera grow close. They formed a solid bond and even fell in love, according to She Knows Soaps. EJ went as far as to cut ties with his father Stefano. He began working as a lawyer for Micky Horton's firm and planned a normal, happy life with Sami. However, that wasn't the case. Once Lucas Horton was released from prison, Sami found herself back in his arms. The two got back together, leaving EJ heartbroken. Of course, he didn't stay single for very long. He began a romance with Nicole Walker and returned to working with his father.
To get back at Carrie, she lures Austin away from her by pretending to be attacked by Alan. This act costs her the friendship with Lucas Roberts. Alan later appears that night with a gun intending to rape her again. Sami takes the gun away and shoots him in the groin and receives a lot of negative press. Lucas comforts her and the two make love. Carrie breaks up with Austin and Sami drugs Austin as a way of sleeping with him by impersonating Carrie. They later agree to keep this a secret. Marlena, possessed by the devil, tells Sami to seduce Austin, and this fails horribly leading Sami to leave town. She returns to find Carrie and Austin saying their vows and tells Carrie that she is carrying his child, leading to Carrie ending the wedding.
Sami gives birth to her son, William Reed on November 16, 1995. Will is actually the son of Lucas, who had been conceived on their one night stand but Sami passes Will off as the son of Austin. Austin marries Sami but breaks things off with her when the truth about Will's paternity comes out. Will is then renamed William Reed Roberts. Austin finally marries Carrie and Sami moves on and becomes engaged to Franco Kelly. Franco was only using Sami to obtain a green card. He ends up murdered on their wedding day. Sami faints upon discovering him dead and Kate Roberts frames her for the murder. At the murder trial, Sami is convicted and sentenced to death. Although she was about to be killed by a lethal injection her innocence was declared. After discovering that Lucas killed Franco and Kate assisted in framing Sami, Sami falls in love with Brandon
