I wrote this based on a story I heard recently and it really moved me.  This one will make you cry - for the joy of a happy ending.  A quiet Christmas can feel heavier than grief, especially when you’ve spent a lifetime holding a family together. “Where I’m Meant to Be” is an ethereal Irish Christmas ballad told through the eyes of an older parent who feels gently moved to the margins: loved, but not fully included.

The song begins in a soft winter minor key and then turns toward warmth and joy as a simple, honest message changes everything: “Come for breakfast. Stay all day.”

I woke up early out of habit,
made one coffee, watched the parade.
I saw “Hi Grandma” signs in windows,
and felt my own rooms start to fade.

So I took a drive for human voices,
for any kindness, soft and near.
A cashier smiled, “Merry Christmas,”
and I near broke down right there.

At four I stepped into their doorway,

“Grandma!” - eyes up for a heartbeat,
then back to glowing screens and tweets.

A quick hug, kind, but half in motion:
“Leftovers there - help out, okay?”
I smiled and ate the coldest turkey,
like I’d arrived mid-scene, mid-play.

That night I sent one honest sentence,
not a guilt-trip, not a fight:
“I miss the messy morning moments.
I want to feel like I belong.”

And love can shift when truth is gentle,
when you name the quiet ache.
Next year a text came bright and early:
“Come for breakfast. Stay all day.”

I walked in to slippers, bedhead laughter,
pajamas, cocoa, toast on plates.
The kids forgot to be “too cool”
and pulled me in to share their takes.

I tied a bow, I snapped a photo,
I burned the rolls - then we all cheered.
And in that sweet, unplanned commotion,
I felt my purpose reappear.

No more “later,” no more “if,”
we make you part of all of this.
We don’t need perfect, we don’t need prime,
we want you here when it begins.
Let me share the morning mess,
paper storms and happiness.
