Michigan executive to help shape the future of credit unions nationwide through AACUC leadership 

LANSING, Mich. — The African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) has elected Kelli Ellsworth Etchison to its national board of directors for a three-year term. Ellsworth Etchison is the chief marketing officer and chief diversity officer for LAFCU. She also serves as CEO of the StableCommunities Foundation powered by LAFCU.

Her election elevates Michigan’s role in the national credit union movement and underscores LAFCU’s leadership in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the financial services industry. Ellsworth Etchison will join peers from across the country in helping guide strategies that shape the future of credit unions and their ability to serve African Americans and other underrepresented communities.

Founded in 1999, the AACUC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to increasing diversity within the credit union industry through advocacy, mentorship, and professional development. Its board provides strategic direction for industry-wide conversations on equity, opportunity, and access.

“I am deeply honored to join the AACUC Board of Directors,” Ellsworth Etchison said. “The AACUC community is bold, mindful, and brave in advancing equity and opportunity. This role is about more than professional leadership — it’s about ensuring that credit unions remain strong advocates for financial empowerment and inclusion. I’m proud to bring LAFCU’s voice to this important work.”

At LAFCU, Ellsworth Etchison has spearheaded initiatives ranging from multicultural engagement to financial literacy programs for youth, seniors, and underserved groups.

The AACUC announced its 2025-2026 Executive Committee and newly elected directors on Sept. 3.

Episode 101: The Next 100 Starts Now

Star Wars and disco were hip when Kansas built its previous unemployment insurance system and it was “sufficient,” Kansas Labor Secretary Amber Shultz says. But on the latest episode of StateScoop’s Priorities Podcast, Shultz describes how, over the course of two years, the state transformed that system into a modern one, with a modern user interface. A system that had to be taken offline constantly — “a house of cards” — has been replaced by one that has nearly perfect uptime, she says. “Our contact center representatives, they couldn’t use a mouse, and they had to memorize all these hundreds of weird shortcodes for abbreviation back in those days, and then the code was not documented,” she says. Today, the state heralds a different story, one in which call centers see 60% fewer calls and processing time has been reduced by 80%.

New York City this week announced a new pilot program that integrates a new emergency alert system with the city’s public schools. The system, which leaders claim is the first of its kind in the United States, provides an automated method of contacting 911 in the event of active shooter scenarios or other threats.

As the federal government shutdown stretches on, state agencies are grappling with technical, financial and policy adjustments following a federal directive to pause processing of SNAP benefits next month. 

Nearly all states and territories have submitted their final proposals to the federal government detailing how they plan to spend their allotments of the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program. Given recent adjustments to how the program is administered, though, the current proposals could leave roughly half of the program’s $42 billion unspent.

Right away I knew these words had power, and I knew just what I had to do.
If I could somehow find the meaning of these words of mine; Bing, Bang, Boom.
And so, I went to work, scouring journals, researching ancient  manuscripts & texts.
Without getting too specific, it was there in hieroglyphics.
I had found the meaning of the first word, Bing.  So come on, everybody, let’s sing.

Just as sure as the sun will be rising tomorrow, we can end the world of pain & sorrow.

Bing, it seems, means nothing more than money, not a lot, enough to meet your needs.
You can turn the page if you make a living wage, enough to stay engaged with the world around you.
Bang apparently just means freedom.  That’s one thing that everybody needs
When I say everybody, that’s exactly what I mean.  Not just some, but everybody.

Boom just means exactly what it sounds like.  I think they call that onomatopoeia.

In this episode Dorinda sits down for a chat with Erin Marshall, co-Deputy Chair of Disability Assembly WA. 
Erin discusses her experience living with cerebral palsy among other health challenges, as well as the impact that hidden disabilities and employment challenges can have on people living with disability more broadly. She highlights the need for better disability education and support for employers. 
Erin shares her journey of self-awareness and the importance of joining a disability employment provider. She emphasizes the role of the Disability Assembly of WA in advocating for better opportunities for people with disabilities, particularly in employment and housing. Erin also discusses the impact of her health conditions on her daily life and future goals, including the need for support to live independently and the desire to travel.

Saving American Liberty, Session 5

In this session from the New Discourses event 'Saving American Liberty,' Michael O’Fallon argues that global political, corporate, and religious institutions are jointly reshaping Western society through “degrowth” policies, sustainability mandates, and ideological frameworks like ESG and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which he sees as mechanisms for centralizing control and limiting individual freedom. He contrasts the West’s self-imposed economic contraction with China’s expansion through the Belt and Road Initiative, claiming this shift empowers China while weakening America’s global position. O’Fallon warns that identity-based conflicts, migration pressures, and urban destabilization are fragmenting Western societies into competing tribal enclaves, leaving them vulnerable to foreign influence. He concludes that COVID-era restrictions, digital surveillance, and AI-driven governance signal a broader transition from a merit-based, liberty-oriented system to one that demands ideological compliance from both citizens and institutions.
