Inspired by trips to Jajouka in North Morocco and the ritual of Boujeloud, but played with Turkish ney flutes and a tebel drum from Ksar El Kbir near to the village of Jajouka yet in a style similar to the music played in those mountains, but also with a hint of Jilali Sufi Tradition and elements of rock. It is a homage to a way of life and a music, which keeps inspiring everybody, who has taken the journey into the heart of darkness.

“Bois Dormant,” Anasbri’s first release, is an evocation, a state of collective trance, a call to witches, a return to the power of intuition and the strength of feminine union.

Created and composed for the performance “Evoca, Venera, Divora!” by the collective Las Berthas, presented during the Non Frequenze Festival 2024, Anasbri immerses the spectator and/or listener in the heart of a hypnotic and transcendent ritual where seductive yet unsettling voices recite a penetrating and heady poem. This clear and committed intent seeks to reclaim the body’s memories, embodying them deeply.

Frenetic, repetitive, and captivating rhythms gradually guide the dancer toward a liberating and purifying climax. A sonic journey that leads to transformation and exaltation of the spirit, where the body dances to the point of exhaustion and trance, purging itself of its venom.

I have always loved music. I learnt piano as a child and have dabbled with guitar without ever learning it ... until now! I have been in choirs most of my life but have not really delved into making music until the last few years. After initially playing around with Garage Band, I moved on to Logic Pro and that's how nearly all of my music has been produced.

I use digital software, guitar and keyboards to produce my original music. I compose and edit using Logic Pro. Other people's vocals or collaborative vocals for any track really are very welcome! 

I love the interaction on Soundcloud and the comments from other musicians and composers are so helpful and supportive. Keep making music everyone!

ABUJAMILA is the namesake of Torben Holleufer of Sufi Caravan and the name means Jamila's Dad in Arabic. Jamila  was my beloved daughter, who left us recently and will forever be in our hearts. 
The music is mostly a cross between inspirations from the Sufi Brotherhoods of Morocco, especially from Gnawa (Gnaoua), Hamadcha, Aissaoua and Jilali as well as western psychedelic and straight singer/somgwriting. 
There are no limits and the music is an invitation to enter the trance and meditation and dance with the spirits. 
The main composer and performer is Torben Holleufer and please send love and prayers to my daughter, Jamila Toni Holleufer (1989-2024), who by the way shot the cover photo in Essaouira in April 2024 on our last trip to Morocco.
