For some time I have been exploring relationships that result from the overlaying of "manipulated quotations". Current for violin solo is a compositional product of this work. In doing so, I refer to templates (in the sense of short excerpts taken from someone else's composition) which I modify using various methods before starting the actual composition process.

In this way, a collection of superimposed (temporally coordinated) snippets is created - like a network that can sometimes be denser, sometimes more transparent. Based on this situation, the “correct” compositional process begins – a stream in the course of which decisions are made and questions are also asked (about “putting in relation”, mediating, connecting, linking….).

The respective end product of this experience is only one of several possibilities - as it were a unique foray over one of several arms of a meander.

This piece reminds me of a dream I used to have as a youngster (5 or 6 maybe). I was in a cavern/cave. I was trying to get away from someone or something. The cave had stairs all throughout it, and the stairs ended on landings. The only way to get off a landing was to jump to another landing below which had more stairs going down from it. This continued until the dream ended or I woke up. Very unnerving!
