STILLNESS OF FRAGILITY is an audiovisual collaboration between photographer Chiara Benzi, video-artist Vladimir Bertozzi and musician Demetrio Cecchitelli. Crossing the oceans of deep states, upside down layers, non-realistic and hyper-imagery borders - the work wants to investigate the inner and out-extended-beyond limits of the dialogue between visual and sound, within a specific real time intervention.

Excerpts from an interview with Dongkyu Na who lives in Turkiye with this family. He recalls previously thinking that climate issues were none of his business and that science and technology would take care of things. Hearing about climate change in the media and conversations with his wife led him to realize the issues are important to his life.

Sound on Screen: Laments of Memory

Once in a while, I'll be posting short excerpts of songs I've worked on, isolating a particular section like just vocals, sound effects or, like in this case, a horn arrangement (something I'm trying to learn more about these days).

This is the closing chorus section of one of my favourite songs I've done, Pick Me Up. This section features a sax solo, accompanied by a horn arrangement (trumpet, sax, trombone), with a bit of organ, bass and drums. All horn sounds are VST instruments, from Acoustic Samples (great company for high quality instrument sounds).

Pick Me Up (FEATURED HORNS)

We often do some quite elaborate percussion ensembles within our songs which can get a little buried under everything else we do. The aim of this release is to highlight some of the more interesting percussion passages in our songs, before you hear the songs themselves. 

Just thought it might be fun to feature these. 

This one has a drum kit, tabla, tambourine, finger bells, finger snaps and claps, and some crowd sound samples.

Lana is a psychic ghost hunter working in the Circle of Roses shop. She wants to help solve a case when a man’s wife leaves him because of ghosts tormenting her in the attic, but she ends up with a haunting dilemma of her own. Terra’s ghost is haunting one of her teens in her small townhouse.

Sylvie and Dana are teenagers who just want to live but when Sylvie’s room is repeatedly thrashed, psychic Rose is called to investigate. She knows Terra from way back and thinks she wants more revenge, but why is the other teen, Dana, not affected? Sylvie and Dana have their own group called the Rosebuds. Started when they were kids, they wind up the only two in it. When old enough they will go into training to become real psychics. As for this story it is their first everything, except their first time seeing a ghost. How long can Terra’s ghost be kept a secret from Dana? And will Rose be able to solve both cases at once?

In 1930, while on a trip to the UK, the father of modern neurosurgery Harvey Cushing operated on a monkey in the lab of his friend Sir Charles Sherrington, the famed neurologist. This is a very brief note describing that operation.

Hymn of the Trout was composed by Samuel Sjostedt in 2024 for Mivos String Quartet during the Vienna Contemporary Composers Festival.

I thought I was writing a book about the baritone roles in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi. But it became increasingly clear that I was writing a book about myself. So I turned it into a memoir, the story of my mid-life coming out, the refashioning of my marriage, my coming to terms with misogyny and toxic masculinity, all told from the perspective of opera. This chapter is about one of Verdi’s rare baritone good guys, Simon Boccanegra. I use his story to explore the death of my mother and my relationship with my children.

During weekdays, ze persuades people to make lists and say no to shiny things. For every role, there is a different hat, and a spreadsheet to match. Zir first full collection, Spectral, came out with Burning Eye in March 2022, and ze describes it as “a kind of poetry concept album, with illustrations”.

Audiobook narrator Edison McDaniels does both fiction and nonfiction work. He also has the technical expertise and background to do complicated technical narrations, such as medical and legal books and papers. He is also interested in and quite adept at military fiction and war stories, especially naval adventures. A special interest is speculative fiction and literary fiction.

Edison has his own in house audio studio. He has a unique and varied background, all of which contribute to his expertise in spoken word audio production in general and audiobook narration in particular. He is a Stanford Med School graduate, a physician, a board certified surgeon, a veteran of sixteen years of active duty naval service (promoted through the ranks from E1 to 05 [that’s Commander, one step below full Captain]). An author, he has published a dozen novels and numerous short stories. Most of his stories are either speculative fiction; he is partial to ghost stories. His spoken word audio work is rich and diverse. He has narrated over 50 books and a number of short stories. The SurgicalFiction Podcast showcases many of the books and tales he has narrated. You will also find selections of both popular and obscure tales from the public domain.

He has a special affinity for tales showcasing medical and surgical fiction (hence the name of the podcast), as well as nautical fiction.

His fully outfitted audio studio includes a dedicated Studiobricks audio booth, several Apple computers and monitors, a Studio One Artist (v. 5) digital audio workstation, an IoStation 24c audio interface, and Izotope RX6 Standard for mastering and production standardization. He uses a Sennheiser MK4 condenser microphone for all his productions. He uses a punch and roll technique, which allows for on the fly direction and immediate correction for word substitutions, tone shifts, pronunciation errors, characterizations, etc.

Climate Stories Project (CSP) is an educational and artistic forum for sharing personal stories about the effects of climate change on our lives and communities. CSP focuses on personal oral histories, which bring an immediacy to the sometimes abstract nature of climate change communication. Some of us may recount dramatic events such as floods and wildfires, or we may address our observations of changes in seasonal patterns and our fears for the future of our families and communities. We may discuss how climate change is forcing our communities to adapt to extreme weather and sea level rise. Or we may speak about how we are getting involved in the movement to fight the fossil fuel industry through community organizing or nonviolent protest.There is no "right" way to talk about climate change, as it is a vast topic that is increasingly touching every corner of our lives. CSP also facilitates educational workshops where students learn to speak about their own responses to climate change and interview guest speakers about theirs. In addition, some climate stories are featured in music and soundscape projects that allow audiences to witness the effects of climate change in a novel way.

Jordan Hansen and Alex Hill met each other upon a swollen river bank in the woods somewhere to the northeast. There they fashioned guitars, pianos, and four track recorders out of twigs and berries. They befriended an aging deer named Hop-Frog who liked to jest. Together they spent their days living off the land, and writing poetry. After some time Hop-Frog passed, and Jordan was whisked away by friends to the city. As for Alex, well, he traveled back to where he grew up and gathered a group of mystic men with their sound machines. Today they're all in a garage somewhere conjuring noises out of wire.
