"Tu Mirada" sets the vibe of the whole release straight; Hypnotic, raw, driving techno from head to toe. "Stalemate" follows a similar approach, yet with a modular twist and a persistent tension. "Expander" sends the listener straight to the darkest dancefloor with its peak-time energy and tunneling hi hats. "From nod To nothing" moves in & out of an eerie musical journey and gives an ethereal closing to this exquisite project.

I was pretty excited to get the opportunity to remix this iconic track from 1999, and it proved a difficult remix given the strength and familiarity of the hook - I couldn't really change it without it sounding a bit like Xpander but not quite as good! So I decided to follow exactly what Sasha had asked me to do, which was "wonk the fuck out of it". The result was some wonked bits and teasing out of the hook, while sticking reasonably closely to the original on the drops. I hope you like it! ps This is a clip, the full length track has an additional intro and outro so it's mixable.

"Expander" from the 1992 Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game "Streets of Rage 2", composed by Motohiro Kawashima.

This is not from emulation. This was recorded from a genuine Model 1 Sega Genesis console with a VA6 motherboard and modded with RCA jacks. This audio was then amplified by a FiiO E6 and captured by a Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro at 24-bit/96khz through Audacity, then losslessly encoded using FLAC. In other words, it's clean and authentic Sega Genesis hardware sound. All credit for this recording goes to "The Iron Goat".

I'm glad to finally rectify that in order to pay correct homage to Motohiro Kawashima's frantic, crazy and awesome creation. The expansion I built for this song is one I'm incredibly proud of, and I think it sounds so natural against Kawashima's arrangement. Purely subjective, of course!

NOTE: This is the "Final Crash" edition of the song, in reference to the last time I will be touching the original SOR soundtracks. I now consider them totally complete.

For the past twenty years, Argentinian-born, Barcelona-based artist Juan Pablo Pfirter has been a driving force behind a sound that's alternately steely, dark, and uplifting, remaining true to the founding principles of techno while infusing it with his avant-garde touch. 

Since his early days, whether through DJing, producing, or as a label owner, Pfirter has demonstrated his talent with focus and style. He's left his mark on esteemed labels like CLR, Figure, Mord, and Stroboscopic Artefacts with select singles, while headlining renowned electronic music venues and events such as Berghain, Tresor, Concrete, Awakenings, and Time Warp. Since his first European tour in 2005, Juan Pablo has tirelessly shaped one of the most distinctive sounds in contemporary electronic music, blending stadium-sized kicks with textured organic elements and hypnotic sub-bass motifs that remain captivating after countless listens. 

In 2006, Pfirter launched his own imprint, MindTrip, which has since become a prominent fixture in the techno landscape. The label serves not only as a platform for his own productions but also for those of his close friends and collaborators, including luminaries such as Flug, Kashpitzky, Nørbak, Stanislav Tolkachev, Dold, and more. Additionally, MindTrip has thrived through its monthly podcast series, featuring acclaimed artists like Angel Molina, Setaoc Mass, and Amotik, each presenting an hour of music that embodies the ethos of the label. 

Having released over 50 club-oriented records, Pfirter ventured into the realm of albums with 2019's "The Empty Space," offering a panoramic view of the subtle intricacies and emotional depth of his craft. His sophomore album, "Altered States," further explores the nuances and expressive possibilities within techno, balancing club-focused realities with introspective, psychoactive elements deeply rooted in the genre's tradition. 

Continuing to bridge the gap between the visceral and the cerebral, Pfirter consistently delivers compelling works that resonate long after the last strobe light fades. Max Cooper is an electronic composer, multi-disciplinary artist, music label founder and former scientist who has carved out a unique space in music and visual art.

He holds a PhD in computational biology at the same time as being the first contemporary electronic musician to perform at the ancient Acropolis theatre in Athens and one of the first clutch of musicians to produce in Dolby Atmos.

Cooper has enquired for over 15 years through music, collaborations, and his label Mesh, to explore the intersections between the arts and sciences with installations, performances, immersive experiences, online media, music videos and live events.  Anchored throughout is his emotive approach, connecting how ideas and forms feel, in a manner accessible to us all. 
 
As an artist synonymous with the evolution of club culture, Cooper honed his craft as a DJ with a 10 year residency at legendary Midlands techno event Firefly where he formed a foundational relationship with Architecture Social Club, with whom he still collaborates on extravagant immersive installations.

"I want to encourage the acceptance of electronic music as an art form like any other. Bringing electronic music and abstract audio-visual projects into concert halls, museums and galleries is liberating - the art world opens up doors to communicate in ways that aren’t possible elsewhere."
  
Pivoting from computational biology to electronic music might not seem like the most natural career transition, but for Cooper the commonalities are obvious:
