A Dream Haunting – Dean R. Chandler

Whilst I’m waiting for my official concept album A Human Odyssey (due January 2027) to be fully produced, here’s a preview of one of its featured tracks — though this version is an AI interpretation.

I actually wrote A Dream Haunting about ten years ago — strangely enough, while taking a shower. Inspiration has a habit of catching me off guard like that. My upcoming album version will be closer to the original demo I recorded back then, featuring my own vocals rather than AI ones.

The song itself is about a man who encounters an other-dimensional being — a radiant, ethereal entity who reaches out to him across the veil. She offers him visions of his past lives and the interconnectedness of all his experiences — love, pain, joy, and sorrow. Through her guidance, he begins to understand the deeper meaning of existence — that our lives are echoes of the same eternal soul, learning and evolving through time.

This AI version captures the dreamlike, otherworldly atmosphere of that encounter — a haunting reflection on what it means to awaken to the truth beyond the human veil.

like I’m reading myself out loud.

so I keep fitting.

I change in character.

I think about leaving the script,
but someone always laughs too soon,
and I crawl right back
to the part they know.

Everyone’s a mirror,
I’m the frame that never moves.
I built a life from feedback
and called it truth.
I don’t even need to try
habit wears my face for me.
It’s safer to be known
than to be free.

Sometimes I test it
say something out of character,
watch the air shift,
watch their eyes ask if I’m okay.
And I smile, like, “Just kidding.”
And there goes another little chance
to mean it.

It’s not fear, exactly
it’s recognition.
The story’s been running so long
it thinks it’s skin.

Everyone’s a mirror,

and called it truth.
I don’t even need to try

than to be free.

But what if I let it glitch?
Let the line drop mid-word?
Would they still hear me,
or would they just hear noise?
Maybe noise is closer
to what I meant all along.

but I can look away.
Maybe losing recognition
is the only honest play.
I don’t even need to try
the act’s already fading.
If freedom looks strange,
then let them call it breaking.

What happens when your breakdown creates its own gravitational field? This is magnetar energy—the kind of trauma that doesn't just change you, it bends reality around you. You know those people who walk into a room and everything just... shifts? They're not trying. They're just compressed neutron stars with feelings to conceal.

Some stars just spin slow and reliable. But magnetars? We reshape rooms. We can't behave like normal pulsars do.

You can't unsee this. You can't unfeel this.

Inspired by the fleeting bloom of the night-blooming cereus, This Hunt explores the intoxicating collision of beauty, desire, and brutality. A soundtrack for when the world’s unraveling and you feel something electric, almost feral rise up in response. For night drives, schemes hatched on fire escapes, 3 AM bodega runs, and meeting strangers between floors.

VANDANA is an artist who thrives in contradiction - shapeshifting between the seductive and the sinister, the intimate and the maximalist, she has built a world where beauty and menace intertwine.

Her forthcoming single “This Hunt” (Oct 17, 2025) is less a song than a ceremony. Born of industrial pulse and velvet ruin, it circles the listener like prey, unraveling themes of pride, appetite, and a Faustian bargain. The lyrics bend the body into ritual, where blossoms bloom with both allure and danger.

Born and raised in India, she moved to London before settling in Brooklyn, a path that mirrors the paradoxes in her music: ancient and futuristic, rooted and exiled, silenced and unafraid. Drawing on a culture steeped in mysticism yet fractured by modern complexity, she calls her vision ancient futurism - an ouroboros of blossoms and brutality, vulnerability and dominance.

Critics at Brooklyn Vegan and The Line of Best Fit have called her a “mystic, intelligent anti-Venus,” placing her within a lineage of art-pop disruptors - Björk, Fever Ray, Thom Yorke, Arca and FKA twigs. Yet her ethos is her own: a maximalist emotional world, ceremonial and cinematic in tone and uncompromising in vision.

I’m Dean R. Chandler — a London based songwriter, recording artist, and storyteller. My music is rooted in a lifelong search for meaning, weaving together themes of love, loss, faith, alien contact, and humanity’s future.

My upcoming double concept album Human Odyssey (set for release in January 2027) is the culmination of decades of writing and reflection. It’s a narrative journey that begins with a search for God and ends with an encounter with extraterrestrial intelligence — exploring not only what it means to be human, but also where we might be heading as a species. Musically, it draws inspiration from the epic storytelling of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds, the synth-driven edge of Gary Numan, and the emotional depth of artists like Tori Amos and Chris de Burgh.

I previously released Time Machine – Reflecting Shattered Dreams (2014) and continue to revisit my archive of songs written across 35 years, reimagining them with today’s tools and sounds. Some pieces remain intimate and acoustic, while others expand into dark rock, industrial, or orchestral landscapes — but all are connected by a focus on emotional honesty and cinematic storytelling.

Beyond music, I’m fascinated by the intersection of creativity and technology. I’ve been experimenting with AI-driven composition and production to bring old demos to life and to spark entirely new works. For me, these tools are not replacements for human artistry but extensions of it — ways of unlocking stories and emotions that otherwise might have remained hidden.

At its heart, my work is about connection: to the past, to the future, and to the unseen mysteries of existence. Music, for me, isn’t just entertainment — it’s a chronicle of transformation, a conversation between spirit, science, and sound.
