The Consone Quartet celebrates its 10th birthday this year with the second of its three-volume survey of Felix Mendelssohn’s string quartets on Linn Records, this time with the inclusion of his sister Fanny’s only work in the genre. The highly strung and inexhaustible energy of both siblings was evident in their creative approach to composition and the Consone players have encapsulated an emotional narrative in the album’s programme. The Quartet’s BBT Fellowship fund is supporting all three Mendelssohn discs; the first, released in 2023 was very warmly received - “a sonority of perfect homogeneity and implacable rhythmic precision” (Diapason) - and the third will be recorded in early 2026 to complete the set.
