DIADEM trap

Portishead’s Glory Box done in full-on prog rock. Noodling and boomer bends galore. Riff inspired by Lynyrd Skynyrd's - Simple Man.

The track's image was loosely inspired by the story of Artemisia II of Caria. According to legend, she was a great warrior who drank her dead husband's ashes from a blue bowl as a sign of devotion, and her grief moved her to build the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, in his honor. I initially thought of using Artemisia I, inspired by Xerxes' well-known remark of her fighting ability “My men have become women; and my women, men.”, but ultimately the concept of a woman consuming a man sat better with me, and is closer to the song ultimately being framed around love and equality, not a war between the sexes. BTW a statue of Artemisia II found at the ruins of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus depicts her wearing a veil. I also tried to capture the hand pose of the statue in her fork hand.
