The Weight (Studio Session Mar. 2025) – FACTORY (Mark III)

Registrata in sala prove a marzo 2025, questa versione di The Weight dei FACTORY (Mark III) è un omaggio potente e rispettoso, ma al tempo stesso reinterpretato con una personalità ben marcata. Alla voce solista e chitarra acustica c’è Antonio Miscali, che conduce il brano con un timbro caldo, narrativo, a tratti dolente, perfetto per restituire la tensione e la malinconia che permeano l’originale.
Sergio Virdis lavora di cesello sulla chitarra elettrica, scegliendo timbri sobri ma incisivi, con un tocco che ricorda il periodo più maturo e “roots rock” della Band, ma che ammicca anche al fraseggio liquido di Mike Bloomfield. Il suo dialogo con l’Hammond è uno dei punti forti della traccia.
Silvio Vinci alterna con grande gusto piano e organo Hammond, donando al brano un respiro gospel e soul, in perfetta linea con lo stile di Al Kooper: i suoi interventi non sono mai invadenti, ma sempre determinanti, capaci di colorare ogni passaggio con profondità emotiva.
La sezione ritmica di Chris Pain e Luca Monaco è compatta, calda, dal groove dondolante. Il basso di Chris, rotondo e melodico, tiene insieme i passaggi più dinamici, mentre Luca alla batteria regala un beat rilassato ma deciso, in pieno spirito americana, tra laid-back e driving pulse.

Il risultato finale è una versione di The Weight che mantiene l’anima del brano originale ma si sposta verso territori sonori che richiamano le collaborazioni tra Kooper e Bloomfield e il rock elegante e riflessivo della Band nella seconda metà degli anni ’70. Una ballata epica, sospesa, profondamente umana.

The Weight -( studio session 17 mar 2025)

I got into a little trouble... I was working security for the Sunday Scaries - Sun Sequence Pool Party at the X last weekend and was asked if I wanted to play a set at the Fillmore in a week's time... 

The thought scared me, so of course I said yes... And for the last week I have frantically been gathering a set together and trying to find some CDJs to practice on... (Thanks Mark and Dustin for setting up the practice sesh and asking me to play)

Well, I'm really happy I took the plunge... It has been 10 years since I've played anywhere in public, but I re-kindled the joy that got me into mixing way back in 09' and I am fully hooked again. 

This live set is pretty rough around the edges, so please be kind and constructive in the comment section, but I hope I'll have an opportunity to play again in the future and hone my craft.

I really love all genres of tunes, so this set is just a love letter to the last 15 years of experiences that have shaped my life. It's missing the first 6 minutes, and this is a replay the following day, so pardon the abrupt entry, but my goal was to start at 70BPM and end up in the 150 range. I hope to play some more sets in the future! -
