Beguiler

„Der stumme Zeuge“ erzählt die Geschichte einer Figur, die aus der stillen Beobachterrolle heraus die Brüche einer aus den Fugen geratenen Welt betrachtet: Ungerechtigkeit, soziale Kälte, Machtmissbrauch – all das zieht an ihr vorbei wie Schatten, die niemand beim Namen nennen will. Der Song macht diesen unsichtbaren Beobachter zur Stimme der Mahnung: einer, der alles sieht, aber nicht gehört wird. Eine balladeske Anklage gegen das Wegschauen und die Lethargie einer Gesellschaft, die ihre Zeugen selbst zum Schweigen bringt.

Wall Around You

Christmas is a time for contemplation. A time spent with family and friends, people you hold dear. The festival of love and light.

I don’t consider myself to be religious, but still I celebrate Christmas. For me Christmas songs from the 60s and 70s have always been part of it. These inspired “Merry Christmas”, my first Christmas song. Let us celebrate, but let us keep the dark in mind too.

Here you will find little acoustic pop songs; melancholy, dreamy-folk things. Sometimes some jangly, fuzzy rock tunes or ambient pieces as well. Work-in-progress demos to finished tracks, informal playlists to official album releases. Enjoy.

The film “The Blues Brothers” accompanied me throughout my childhood. It’s about two brothers, who want to put on a huge show to save the orphanage in which they grew up in. For this purpose, they bring their former band back together. The performances, the songs, the energy – I soaked it all up while watching and I knew: I wanted to be a musician.

I was able to win over the producer Micki Meuser (Ina Deter, Silly, Die Ärzte) for the recording of my third album “Turn of Tides or Where the Waves Come From” which received four stars by RnR Magazine, was called a “colourful kaleidoscope of earwormy song pearls” by Schall Magazin and was shortlisted by the German Record Critics’ Award. The album is a collection of tales with the sea as the setting. For me oceans are simply magical and a great source of inspiration. I remember visiting my grandfather in North Devon. We’d sit on the cliffs for hours, watching the waves hit the shore. Now these memories have flown into the album.

Recently I co-wrote and sang a song with the film composer Freya Arde for the current adaptation of the novel by Erich Kästner called “Das Fliegende Klassenzimmer” (The Flying Classroom). I live in Berlin and although I love writing stories in my songs and recording them, my true passion lies in performing and doing what I do best: Putting Rock ’n’ Roll into Folk.
