Program Note:

The concept for this piece stems from a report I once read: during festivals, beautiful fireworks light up the sky. However, the explosions and the smoke disturb birds resting for the night. Some birds take flight in panic, circling for hours, exhausting their precious energy, which sometimes puts them in danger, even leading to death. This deeply saddened me, and I wish to express my sorrow for the birds that perished.

In this piece, I first depict fireworks and birds separately. For the fireworks, I use a progression from consonant to dissonant harmonies, along with expanding registers and extended techniques, to illustrate their transformation from beauty to danger. For the birds, I use repetitive rhythms and pitches to imitate birdsong and use constantly shifting speeds to capture their lively and agile nature. After introducing the themes of fireworks and birds separately, I combine the two to depict the birds' escape after being startled by the fireworks, then a scene where they assemble after being attacked, and finally departure into the distance.

Some new gear purchased this week in the form of a Radius Mini-alto Windshield setup. So far very impressed with the well thought out ergonomics, ease of use and modularity. Everything we could ever have asked for at a really competitive price. To complete the setup I also purchased a Schoeps Mk 8 Capsule to make a compact MS setup for on the road. 

This is recording in MS at its widest setting, panned full L and R. It sounds really good even when you collapse the MS slightly but I've kept it full open so you can hear all the elements. The stereo effect is pretty impressive and the ambience really shows on that Mk 8 capsule, with the fireworks bouncing off the hard surfaces of the housing estate. 

No EQ applied at all, just a hard limiter to control some of those louder explosions and make it overall easier on the ears.

If you haven't bought a Radius windshield yet, don't hold out, they're awesome. 
Also something to listen out for, not all the 'wizz' sounds are fireworks, as there were lots of Redwing moving that night too. Feel sorry for them, I bet they're frightened to death hearing all that whilst trying to migrate at night.

Welcome to Logical Miracle, a project where a lifelong dream meets the cutting edge of technology, brought to life by two passionate creators, one a musician and songwriter, the other an edu tech enthusiast who turns ideas into reality.

Like many, my journey started with big dreams as a child. I imagined myself as a musical genius, learning to play the recorder and later moving on to the violin and guitar. Back then, I had no idea how challenging the music industry could be. As life moved on, new adventures like jobs, holidays, and eventually starting a family took over, and my musical dream slowly faded into the background.

But the story didn’t end there. Over the past 40 years, technology has evolved in incredible ways, creating opportunities that were once unimaginable. Social media has reconnected us with old friends and memories, while AI and music software have revolutionised how we create and share music. The music industry, once an exclusive club, has had to adapt, leaving space for new voices to emerge.

This is where Logical Miracle was born, a collaboration between my love for music and the technical genius of my partner. For years, I wrote poems, not realising they were songs in waiting. Today, with the help of AI, music production software, and my tech-savvy partner, we’ve brought those words to life. The dream of working in a big studio isn’t necessary anymore; with the right tools and expertise, we’re able to create professional-quality music right from home.

Logical Miracle is the result of this collaboration. It’s not just a musical project, it’s a testament to the power of dreams and the possibilities that technology brings. What started as a simple idea has blossomed into something much bigger, a dream shared and fulfilled. Now, it’s time for our music to be heard.
