A Strzyga is a demon from Slavic folklore, that is similar to a vampire. Often a female creature, a strzyga is believed to originate from a person born with two souls, two hearts, or two sets of teeth, who is then cast out of their village. After death, one soul goes to the afterlife, but the other, demonic soul remains to rise from the grave at night to hunt and feed on the living.

In Estonian folklore, Mets Haldijas does not refer to a single "monster," but is a term for various forest spirits, often translated as a "forest fairy" or "forest guardian". These spirits are protectors of the woods, who can mislead those with malicious intentions or assist those who are respectful. They can appear as human-like figures, wild animals, or even as trees.
