When Jesus looks at His Church, He is able to view it in 3 ways – eternally, globally, and locally. The purposes and the promises of God will encourage us to have a growing hope and anticipation for the Church. But as we partake in something incredibly local and often ordinary looking; it can be very easy to overlook the greatness and beauty of it, because of its apparent simplicity. Belonging to a local Church connects us to something that is eternal and global.

One of Baring’s strategic grant areas is Arts & Mental Health, granting about £1 million per year over at least five years to organizations specializing in arts and creativity with people with mental health problems; supporting participatory artists from Global Majority communities in this work; and supporting more men to engage in creative mental health. They’ve published considerable material documenting this work. 

We’ll talk with David about how and why the Foundation chose this focus, the impact they’re having, and how their work fits into the larger arts funding landscape.

This discussion presents a discussion about the bookoligarchy "Foundations: Their Power and Influence" by Rene A. Wormser (https://amzn.to/3ZEaI45), originally published in 1958. The book, written by the general counsel for the Reece Committee, details the committee's investigation into large, tax-exempt foundations like those created by Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Ford. Wormser argues that these foundations, particularly through their "social science" endeavors and intermediary organizations like the Social Science Research Council and Institute of Pacific Relations, exerted undue influence on education, foreign policy, and social thought, often promoting a "collectivist" or "liberal" agenda. The text also highlights the intense opposition faced by the Reece Committee during its investigation, suggesting a concerted effort by these powerful entities to resist scrutiny and maintain their influence. Wormser contends that while foundations can do good, their unchecked power and lack of accountability, particularly in politically sensitive areas, pose a significant threat to American society and its traditions.
